At maximum, my CoT50 Red doesn't boost that much more than at minimum - only the amount fuzz/bias is increased.

does it still react well to the guitar's volume control when the bias is turned up?

Yup, you can still roll back the guitar's volume for cleanup when the bias is turned up. I find that I don't like it any higher than 2:00 or so. It gets too fuzzy after that, but in a way that I don't like. 9:00, 11:00 and 2:00 have been the sweet spots for me, depending what I'm trying to get.

The volume boost is minimal, but it's there and seems consistent no matter where you set the bias knob.

I use mine manly at 11:00 and max gain. Cleans up very well both ways. Almost the same boost level both ways too. I guess past 12:00 it just adds clipping.

11 o'clock is the sweet spot for me too.

Yep, me three - 11:00, set it and forget it. There is a volume boost, depending on what amp you're using and how hard it's being pushed. Almost no boost when running it into a CT22 with amp volume at about 3:00, but a definite volume boost when using amps that have headroom to spare.
