Although, I’m not much of a Country music listener, I know enough to know that some of the baddest, guitar-slinging mofos come from that genre. I like to think of them boys as the original “shredders”.
Many moons ago, I was fortunate enough to become friends, and later jam with, a guy that used to do some session work in Nashville. (He moved to my town to be a
Mac store manager). Needless to say, “monster” would not be an inaccurate description for this fellows aptitude on six strings. Oddly enough, his favorite band was Rush.
And if I weren’t so technologically challenged, I’d post some Gatton, Buchanan, with a dash of Roy Clark for good measure.
There are no "lead guitarists" in country, they are pickers. Damn near every one out there is a killer and they don't try to showcase their skills like rock players do. A totally different attitude and approach to guitar playing.
The man (along with Roy who was more Blues):
Two greats... Brent might be the hardest working and Johnny rips:
Two more... Brad might be the best and Keith is underrated:
Old school (and Chet does a sweep arpeggio lol):
Some other greats already posted above.
