Opinions vary as to whether the blow-out is to clear inventory for a later model with reverb and effects, as I'd heard, or whether it's just to get rid of them altogether.

    From the Diner:

I wouldn't hold out waiting for an upgrade. Rumor has it that outside of this small circle of enablers the Power Block has been a non starter for Crate. They have been offering promo pricing to dealers for the past several months with few takers. GC/MF probably bought up the remaining stock at substantial savings and are liquidating the remaining inventory. If you want a new one I'd look to get it now rather than wait for the Vapor Ware V.2 model.

I have heard that there are problems with them. Any truth to that?

Thanks for the info - I picked up both - the valve jr for $75 and the crate for $99 - two amps in one day ! ! ! ! And the wife liked the price ! !

I plugged the jr into a Dr Z 2 x 12 cab - very nice sounds. Looking forward to some new tubes. PowerBlock hurt my ears as a guitar amp but I primarily bought it as a home PA power amp so we'll see how that goes. The fact that could be a good backup amp for gigs was an added plus.

Thanks again for the info - Al Z.

Not exactly bulletproof. Mine had a pot die within 5 months. Got it fixed on warranty.

This is too good of a deal to pass up ........... so I have one coming from MF, thanks!

It will probably spend most of it's time in my gig bag as a back up though.

Valve Jr for $75??? Where? ........... and what is a Valve Jr?

Bought my Power Block about a year ago and no problems yet. Great "throw it in the gig bag" emergency backup amp and it really doesn't sound too bad. I think the Roland Cube 60 sounds a little better for how I use it, but it's a combo. However, at $99, I'm tempted to pick up another Power Block just to have around.

I need a practice amp for home (an apartment). Those of you that have used the powerblock and the valve jr, which would be better for the house (with pedals for drive)? I know they're cheap, but I can only have one (in college).

Ahh, didn't think about that! You could order some strings or something to get it back up over $99...just consider the strings/polish/cloth/picks whatever as freebies :)

We're all officially out of our minds, $3000 amps change hands with barely a blink and now we're buying picks and polish to make sure we get free shipping on a $99. amp! My grandmother would be so proud of all of us. Soon we'll be having dinner at 3:45 to catch the early bird and getting to the airport four hours before our flight leaves! Now put on your sweater, you don't want to catch a cold!

You beat me to it. I was also thinking, these would look perfectly "logical" next to my $2700 Road King II head.
