creative SB *external* usb live! 24-bit

anybody try any casual recording with this $44 24-bit box through the line-in?

Tried to use it to play back some 24/96 and it was a piece of crap, clicking and popping etc. Sound like butt as well.

Good to see you here! By chance did you try 24/48? Was it also bad?

Didn't try it, but I'd stay away from USB devices and maybe try USB2 or Firewire. I'm going with an Echo PCMCIA for my laptop.

Hi Jeff,
You're probably right. I'm aware of all the USB 1.1 problems, but some products are fairly stable, at low samp rates if their PC/OS are fast and no other USB devices going on -- like the Tascam US-122, and *some* mbox users get the thing going.

Anyways, if the sucker drops below $40 I'll probably try it, then ebay it. Am also looking for a quick and dirty mp3 encoder with line-in for some podcasting, may go with the iriver 899 like dawnanddrew.com use...
