Im being offered this Charvel in a possible trade for my SG.

The headstock says Charvel (Made In USA) Custom Shop.
Floyd Rose, 1 Humbucker, 1 Volume Knob, Wilkinson Tuners, All Maple Neck, Green Flamed Maple Body I Believe

Cant find any info on the web about this guitar, especially the 1 Humbucker, 1 Volume (G&L Rampage look to it).

Does anybody know the model of this Charvel Custom Shop?

looks like a USA San Dimas model to me:dunno

Thanks! That was my first guess as well, a custom shop san dimas. But the one humbucker was throwing me off.

If anybody else can confirm this to be a San Dimas, or something else feel free to chime in! Thanks

& would you trade a SG std for this guitar. Hit me by surprise being offered it in a trade. Ive wanted a G&L Rampage my whole life and this looks a lot like one, and Ive also have been craving a Charvel San Dimas. So if it ends up being a San Dimas, I dont know what I'll do. I love my SG but this guitar is beautiful aside from being green lol.

The Charvel Custom Shop tend to come out either as one offs or in specific "themed" small batches, such as the Music Zoo mahogany "naturals", the "to hell and back" series etc.

I am a JCF member and have owned many Charvels both from the original80s San Dimas run and the current Fender-owned run, and I've seen many variations on the theme, with 1H, 2H, 1SC and 1H etc.

I don't seem to recall any small batch that looks like this guitar, there was a small run in 2004 I believe with a flametop 1H body but with a vintage style NOS brass tremolo and a birdseye maple neck with clear headstock (basically a color variation on the 25th Anniversary Ltd Run), but to the best of my knowledge the colors did not include green.

So, in short, this looks like a one off, assuming it is legit. There is a chance that the body could be an aftermarket however, also considering that the body horns in the pic look slinkier (but not as thin as the Charvel Slinky body shape) than their standard Strat shape.

Could you explain what one offs mean? Sorry if dumb question.

& that was actually the best picture I received. I just asked for a bunch more & the serial #.

You guys got me starting to think it could be a parts charvel, with just a custom shop neck. As the horns do look more slender than most, and I cant find much info on it either. I sure hope im wrong, because it'd be great if a true CS Charvel. I will post the pictures & serial number tomorrow when and if he sends em my way.

Thanks guys.

One off, as in a one off guitar. Not a model per se, or part of a small batch of guitars with the same specs.

Say, Brian May's Red Special is a one off. Probably the Mother of All One Offs, at that.

BTW, the Wilkinson tuners are definitely a replacement.

I'm skeptical about that guitar. Custom shop guitars usually come in a G&G case. The fretboard at the 22 fret looks rounded (like fender) not squared-off like Charvels. Body shape look wrong, longer than I would expect.

The biggest issue: If this is a real custom shop, that person plunked down some serious money and waited a long time to get it. They're gonna have _all_ the paperwork and tags and everything. If the seller doesn't have that, I'd walk away.

Well, the most difficult part is the fact that it is from their custom shop... Seller should have paperwork that accompanies this guitar... otherwise, without calling charvel to confirm there is NO WAY you are going to know if it's legit...

^^ This.......I've never seen a rounded-off Charvel neck. The horns don't look right either. I suspect it's a fake.

I would contact Charvel and verify it's authenticity. If it's a true custom shop piece, then the trade is a good one if you like the guitar and provided your SG is not vintage or otherwise more valuable than an average Standard SG. Provided that the Charvel is authenticated, I would trade an SG for it anyday. The custom shop pieces are very nice. Frankly, so is most of what they made.

Welp he finally caved in and told me it was a fake Charvel after I asked him a bunch of questions last night. Which makes me mad because he'd been talking it up for a good 5 days or so, and at one point said he didnt think he could trade the charvel for my SG because it was too valuable?!

Looks like the headstock was the only real Charvel part. I had started to think the body looked like a mighty mite after you guys got me going on the shape. Wilkinson tuners obviously not original, no serial number on the plate, no papers, no g&l case, not even an original floyd rose. off brand neck as well.

Id like to personally thank everybody on here who responded and gave me their input on that Charvel. Everything you guys said was spot on, and thats why I post on this forum. You guys are grade A and know your ****. Thanks again guys

As you've already discovered. There is nothing Charvel CS about that guitar. Not even the neck. As other said. Round end 22 fret. No. Body shape and placement of electronics. NO
