Who makes a d-style closed back, ported cab that I would put an EV12L. Also, what were the real ones made of, ply or solid?

Alf Hermida I believe has front loaded D style ported cabs. At least i think that is part of the influence but Alf is not asleep at the wheel either.
Not sure of materials for these closed backs but I would think solid pine for side top and bottom and ply for baffles.

I have heard these cabs and they sound incredible. Built VERY well, especially for the price.

Agreed. Haven't heard them but at the price I'd probably sooner buy one than build it. That never happens. great deal.

I have played through the 1/12 ported Z-Cab. Huge sound!

I tried one with a D'Lite. It sounded huge compared to the 1x12. Both were loaded with 12-65's.
