Dan Aykroyd and John Landis: how we made The Blues Brothers

People hung up on the name "Blues Brothers" cuz they aren't a blues band probably don't enjoy:
- Foo fighters cuz they've never seen Dave fight with or against or for Foo
- Prince cuz he has no royal blood
- Guns and Roses as they used neither on stage
- Poison as they didn't have the antidote

They called their show a "Rhythm and Blues Revue". And that's exactly what it was.

And in the movie their names were Jake Blues and Elwood Blues. Hence Blues Brothers band name.

Lighten up Francis indeed. Was it a good movie? No, not really. Was it a great movie? Oh Hell yeah. Sometimes things are greater than the sum of their parts. It’s an eminently quotable and rewatchable movie that in my opinion stands head and shoulders above 90% of the dreck Hollywood now turns out. It’s a movie with heart and soul, not a simplistic questionable moral hammered into the audience by dull people somehow convinced that they are actually smarter than everyone else. And folks like Cab Calloway, Aretha Franklin, James Brown and Ray Charles maybe aren’t properly blues, but jazz, boogie and R&B are all important parts of blues as a genre. Nothing in music stands alone, genre lines are always indistinct, and many blues greats had bands which looked like and often played like great jazz bands. Perhaps more importantly these people are musical influences to which everyone should be exposed. Life without Aretha or Cab is less bright even if we don’t know what we are missing.

Besides, John Lee Hooker alone should be enough to make any movie a blues movie.
