Long time Gear Pager Dave LaPenotiere died early Saturday morning after a 3 year long battle w Esophageal cancer. Dave endured incredible odds, near constant daily pain, but always had a positive attitude and smile on his face. He loved playing, and played in a band. He had a penchant for fine guitars and boutique amps. As he was so sick he did not sell off a lot of what he had bought, so I will need to sell some nice gear for him. I don't want to run afoul of TGP rules, but if interested to know more please PM me.

Esophageal Cancer is the fastest growing cancer in the U.S. Heartburn can cause cancer. If you have persistent heartburn, constant reflux, or difficulty swallowing, please see your doctor and insist on an endoscopy. Early detection can save lives. Dave was only 60, and cut down in the prime of his life. So very unfair.

Sandy I'm sorry to hear this. I remember the thread he started after having a difficult recovery from surgery.

Thank you, Matt. In our case the cure was worse than the disease. Post op complications completely ruined his life. And this was at Hopkins no less. Pay just never know.

I had a few conversations with Dave about gear and his illness. My brother in law has the same thing and has been going through hell as well. So sorry to hear he has lost his life. RIP Dave.

It is always a sad day to lose one of our brothers in gear. I hope that he is as well received upstairs as he was here.

I've always played in my head "what would you do?" scenarios. Very sad to hear this, as I remember reading his threads about his struggle. A sad day....

    RIP Dave. Play on.

That's a tough disease and as you mentioned, sometimes the treatment can be equally tough. RIP Dave, hope you are at peace and in a better place. My sympathy to his family and friends.

My condolences Sandy. I have two friends suffering from same one younger, one my age 62. I'm due for an endoscopy next fall - every two years.

So terribly sorry to hear this! All my interaction with Dave on TGP was positive, and it sounds like he lived his "real life" the same way. Always tough to see any TGP'er pass on, but Dave's passing hits close to home, both literally and figuratively. For one just being a fellow Marylander, but also because I've had a couple recent Hopkins experiences as well. Dave's friends and family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
