How was it? (Had we connected earlier, I might have asked to drive up with you or for you to drive up with me.)

Really good! I saw a lot more 50s bursts, Goldtops, and customs than last year. Last year felt more “boutique” and this year more vintage. I took my kids, who learned a lot and asked a lot of questions.

Eric is an amp builder/tech, but I’m sure he can help. There are certainly a few guys in this thread who will vouch for him.

Has anyone used Marty Fair at Fairbuilt for any fret work? He seems to have a great reputation for his custom acoustic guitars, but I haven’t seen much about electric repairs. I have an old strat that needs to be refretted. I’ve always made the drive to Baltimore, but with little kids, etc... I’d like to be closer to home. I’m about 60 miles W. Of DC in VA.

I haven’t used Marty, but just took 3 guitars over to Union Street Guitar Works for crown/level/polish and setups on Jan 7th. From his site, he does refrets as well (see FlyingVBlues’s post above for site).

I’ll report back in when I pick them up later this month. It looks like he’s an authorized repair shop for Taylor guitars, too.

Thanks for the recommendation. It looks like it is just as far to Union Street as it is to Baltimore where I've been going. I'm excited to hear how the work turns out though and will have to call around to check on timeframes. I don't want to leave my No. 1 for months....

I will! I had been looking for a local shop to get that work done for a while when I saw the post above. This is the first time I have used him.

New Year, time to fix the gear!

I get that. He’s got my LP in his shop now, which is my No 1 and the first guitar I ever bought 22 years ago. He did ask me when I dropped them off if I needed them back by a certain time. I told him by end of Jan and he said probably sooner. He might have some flexibility but refret probably takes more time.

Alright, reporting back. I picked up all three guitars yesterday (less than two weeks) and had a thorough play through in the last 24 hours. Justin did a great job, intonation is better than it’s been in 15 years for those guitars with the fret work. I’m a bit of a hammer hand and require that my guitars ring out without fret buzz (set them up this way myself)... after fret work, Justin listened to me and set them up as low as possible without fret buzz when laying into them. He also had great communication about installing a nut in one of the guitars. Highly recommend his work! Happy to answer any specific questions.

My pile-up is nothing like @Bossanova, but I’d love to let go of a Matchless Clubman Reverb head, Carr Mercury 112 combo and a Marshall Lead 12 head/110 cab.
