Thanks Steve. Eric is great, but has moved to West Virginia! He has helped me plenty

I didn’t know Eric had moved. The last time I spoke with him he was still in VA. You could try Phil Mountjoy in Bristow.

Eric’s move is recent. I’ve been to his place a few times in the last 6 months. Still very eager to hear his final version of his pedal sized tube amp.

    Thanks

Phil builds amps and also does repairs. I know several people who speak highly of his work.

Does anyone have an available venue for a tone tasting/gear swap? Since Steve is away we’re at a loss. Am I overstating to say we all crave this event?

You might be. At the last couple of events, from what I saw and heard, almost nothing sold. Everyone's in the same boat - too much gear/wanting only to divest (although I did, myself, drop $2K on my Burton Universal Uppercut at one these events - always the odd man out :p ). This being said, the socializing aspect was always great fun.

Certainly agree with the lack of swapping/buying/selling, but I think the tone tasting and socializing is equal to more valuable, and if anyone has something to sell, why not bring it along? If we don’t mind the time to truck everything to a venue, no harm no foul.

On another note; we need to be able to play amps at an appropriate output to judge their character, but it must be one-at-a-time to properly evaluate. In past events some individuals were displeased with the decibels a 10 watt amp at breakup may put out. I suggest a station-to-station approach. Anyone has the opportunity to try anything as we cycle through any single owners’ collection. That gives each of us the option to stay or leave if anything is too loud. Stay if you want, go outside if not interested in the amp or amp’s output.

It's academic without a venue and Steve's clubhouse is the only one I'm aware of us ever finding.

When you find a replacement, send me a PM ("Conversation"), I'll be happy to help again in the set up as I did with Steve.

    Jon Silberman, my man.

I hope I can help find a partner with a venue. I’m in Fredericksburg in a relatively small home and no community building or gathering place. Nothing especially useful for my use, just trying to be an advocate for an event I’ve enjoyed for a few years. Miss you Steve, for more than this.

...however I bet my church in North Stafford would let me use the building.

Those interested, what do y’all think about Stafford exit as a meeting place? About 1 mile off 95 exit

I’ll talk to the Pastor about it. In the meantime, please help me get the word out about the possibility and try to get a general figure on attendance

I'd be interested in attending depending on timing, but I have a 6 month old and a lot going on this summer, so it's dicey. Also might want to start putting together a list of stuff folks could bring if interested.

Assuming I can attend - I could bring 2 amps out of the following: my Diezel Hagen, or Schmidt or Naylor combo for folks to try as well as my Tube Amp Expander. Also some pedals which I can list out if folks are interested. We also ought to think about what misc. stuff is needed (power supplies, cables, etc). I can't lug an extension cab, though.

And even though we probably aren't talking about selling stuff for the reason above... it might also be a good idea to list something you COULD bring to sell/trade if someone were interested for trial. Just a thought, please feel free to shoot down as appropriate.

... I also make zero guarantees about my playing; it was never great but especially sucks of late with a newborn.

I can attest to the idea that it won;t get better with a 10 and 7 year old if you coach their sports teams :)
