I'm looking for some versatility due to a small budget and a small board.

I'd like to find a good digital delay also that has a convincing analog delay sound/mode. Is the Boss DD-7 worthy or are there better options?

The TC Flashback/Alter Ego is a pretty strong contender, great variety in a small package. The DD 7 is no slouch either.

One word can be so important!

I need a delay unit that will do both digital and analog delays well.

Thanks for the input so far.

It would also be helpful if you mentioned why you like the pedal.

Nova Repeater. The analog is not amazing but definitely serviceable. Way more user friendly and versatile than the Flashback IMO, though the FBX4 is pretty nice (also twice as expensive). You can find Nova Repeaters for about 100 nowadays, which is a steal. I miss having one. Good digital, good modulation, a good delay toolkit to have around.

    once again, Echo Park.

it does digital, tape, and analog delay sounds, has some of the best emulated tape and digital modulation i've ever heard, and goes into oscilation when tweaked like an analog delay. Built like a tank (but easily replaceable if it breaks), on board tap-tempo, and super easy to dial in almost any sound you can imagine.

The Deep Blue Delay sounds analog but is a digital design that allows the option of little longer delay time compared to analog designs.

Tons of great analog sounds and the 2290 toneprint (no mod) is a fantastic digital. I don't like the demos I've heard of the 2290 Mod on the AE is worse than the on the FB.

Also I have a FBx4 and can't count how many times I've hit the tap switch with no issues. All the switch issues I've heard of were on the early single pedals.

The only problem with this pedal is it cost about double my budget...

I second that, especially for the modulated analog delay, which was always my favorite sound in that pedal! The texture on the analog delay especially was dialed in just right.

The Boss DD20 has a great analog delay engine. I like old DD2/3's for this also. They don't sound strictly analog or digital, a nice blend of the two though. Just perfect for cutting through at gigs.

yes - lately I go back and forth between a DD2 and the Monte - and have abandoned completely my other delays. The DD2 is a little drier - the Monte more juicy. Both relatively inexpensive, awesome in band situations - and small enough to swap back and forth on a small board.
