Does anything beat the EQD Black Eye?

    Probably

I have a handful of boosts, all of them fantastic at one thing or another. Oh, and aren't pretty much all boosts dead simple?

Creation Audio Mk 4.23 would get my vote for a pure clean boost. Great pedal.

I mean, isn't the black eye basically a zvex sho? 5m input impedance, 1k output impedance, MOSFET design...

If you want some color you can have the same thing with a j201 or 2n5457 but those will distort much more easily.

For a dead simple clean boost the xotic EP is quite good as is the tc electronic spark mini.

For a "nothing but you, just louder", one knob boost I say the Lizard Legs pedal is the best that I have had the pleasure to play/own. There is a used one on the emporium for just $80.

I am curious about the other EQD one knob boost, the EQD Arrows.

Was always fond of the MI Audio Boost N Buff for this.

Really loving the TC Spark Mini. Was only $50 too.

I particularly dig how noise-free it is.

EP booster is not 'just a clean boost', definitely adds its own sound. Spark mini does a little bit too but is much more neutral.

My favourite completely neutral clean boost is the Caroline Effects Icarus boost.

For a less transparent boost I love the Bearfoot Baby Pink Booster.

My simple clean boost is EHX 2ube, no tone circuit, just 2 tubes with drive and volume.

True. Really thickens up a Strat/ Single coil even with the treble dip switch engaged. I actually love that for solos but YMMV

I had an early Catalinbread SCP that was great. IIRC 25db of boost and it was great at hitting the front end of my Matchless Cheiftain.

Curious, can you drive one channel into the other on this unit?

    I'm with ya!

So hard to beat a simple TL0_2-type circuit....clean, simple, transparent, quiet & small. Hi-Z in, Low-Z out....what's not to love?
