Delay in FX loop with high gain. Digital,Analog?

Do you guys hear much of a difference when using delays in the FX loop of a high gain amp between digital and analog delay's? Most guys I see who are picky about it are running delays in amps with no loops or out front anyway. I love delay in the loop for a bit of ambience, the feeling where the delays are in the background and don't overpower your sound. With high gain in the input delay can sound like a trainwreck.

But I like delay out front for things like VH's Cathederal and I MUCH prefer any modulation out front and not in the loop. And for medium gain and clean I like delay out front, FX loops seems to throw effects in the background a bit, which works for some things.

i think the options open up with the delay in the loop; i'm using an analog delayla, which is pretty hi-fi for an analog box, in the (metro) loop of my old 2203 marshall.

out front, i wouldn't have tolerated the too-crisp sound of a digital delay, but now that i have the loop, i'm starting to think a full-on digital delay might be cool for long repeats, tap tempo stuff, etc. the hi-fi nature sounds good in that context.

Yes, that's what I'm leaning towards. A analog for out front and digital for the loop.

I find that for brighter amps like the marshall jvm an analog delay is great but for a darker sound like my mark v, digital is the only way to go. If not, its hard to hear the repeats.
