Ive been wanting an ES335 type guitar so settled on an epihpone dot. Went to the local Sam Ash and they all had VERY pale, light pau ferro boards, was a deal breaker for me. Went to GC and they had an ES335 pro that was very dinged up. Rosewood board and coil tapping. I played it and action was horrible, the push pull was very scratchy, needs a setup to be playable. For reference the SAM ASH had a sticker saying it was set up and played great with fresh strings. So the guitar lists for 499, has the dings showed below, and needs a setup. Wondering what is reasonable. They said 450$ out the door and I just said ok and played it for alittle. 400$ out the door with a setup and strings seems like is the most I would ever pay[IMG] [IMG]

    That's not dinged, that's gouged.
    No more than $250 IMO.
I got my brand new 339Pro for $400 tax incl.

If it were me I would just pass on it . To their defense there isn’t much profit margin on a 500 dollar guitar . Both dings are significant . I’d at least have them do a setup for free in addition to the discount. Have you checked Reverb? That one on the neck looks bad.

The scratchy push pull would be a deal breaker. Changing pots on a semi is a tremendous pain in the ass. Be patient, you’ll find your guitar.

That's way beyond just a couple dents/dings. I'd just find something else unless you can get that one cheap...if you could get it around $250-300 out the door with fresh strings and a setup and whatever other little things you can talk them into, then I'd consider it. Otherwise, there are plenty of 335s out in the world to choose from that haven't been abused.

The input jack was loose and it was scratching going in and out. If I was serious I’d have them tighten it up ,then id be sure to get a good wire and plug into a nice amp if they agreed on price .

    Even at 250$, and a 50$ setup
Im at 300. Prob find one used very close to that. And a 50$ setup near me is hard to find. How recent is the pau Ferro on the dot? Prob find one used with rosewood? I’d be all over a used dot in playable condition for 275-300 with rosewood in cherry red with the new pickups. Used GC has a few

    I totally agree.

No thanks, especially at that price. It ain't like Epi 339s aren't everywhere.

    Happy hunting.

Headstock I don’t care at all about(assuming nothing else is bad) and the gauge on the back I didn’t feel while playing. I think this has been there a very long time. For 250$ with a set up I’m in for sure. I’ll see what they say

That's a $200 guitar even if it comes with a $100 case. Nope.

Don't support that kind of nonsense. For all the reasons mentioned above. That's... sick that they're trying to exploit your interest like that.

    .

If pale Pao Ferro bothers you, buy a can of Feibings Leather Dye or Minwax True Black Stain and "Ebonize" it. I did that for a strat-like-object a couple of years back and it looked deep black.
Wear gloves or you'll be ebonized too!

Otherwise, go on Amazon and try to find the Firefly hollow body guitars (search the '60 Hertz' youtube channel for discussion of them). Or go over to Harley Benton US site and get a hollow body from them. Probably $150 new for either option.

Samick makes 80% of the import guitars so the probability is that not only are the Epiphones you are looking at made by Samick, but the other brands are as well. I have a Washburn/Oscar Schmidt hollow body made by Samick.

Oy! That's a fairly big gouge in the headstock. Still, it's not a snapped would make itvworkheadstock or busted neck joint. I would be able to make it work for a decent price.
