I didn't see this posted here, but I just found out that Derek bought a '59 Les Paul back in 2008. Plays it in concert every now and then. Just saw this over at the lespaulforum.

The guy posing with the guitar has a 'Clint Eastwood' thing happening.

There was a post in the thread on the Les Paul forum that it was on loan to him, then the guy reposted that it was a different guitar. I guess some guys that talked to him said he bought it.

Wonder what he got it for? I know someone that owns at least a dozen bursts between 58-60, and numerous 53-56 conversions. The last one he bought he paid $40k for. So somewhere out there you can get them for "decent" prices.

I haven't seen that one, but he played Duane Allman's gold top for a few songs when Tedeschi Trucks Band played Atlanta last month. Sounded SWEET!

Nice to see a real burst that's owned by a guy who knows how to work the strings and knobs and stuff.

I found it interesting in the first clip posted that Derek was using the bridge pickup on the '59. He uses the neck pickup on his SG exclusively.

He always sounds like Derek to me...which is a really good thing because he's amazing.

YES! You da man! This show was absolutely fantastic, man. I was totally bummed when I didn't see any tapers there, but noticed people were filming and figured that's why. I hope the whole show turns up on DVD. The energy was amazing that night.

I wonder if he ever had to make the phone calls that go "me and my wife are starting a band and wonder if you'd like to be in it" click.
