Don't know if this is new or not, but I saw the Allman Brothers w/ Phil & Friends the last 2 nights and last night Derek pulled out a PRS for one song. When did he start playing these? Don't know if anybody else got a chance to go to either show, but it was killer. Got to meet Gregg, Warren and Derek, but didn't get to ask him about the PRS. Anybody got any info?

which one was it? ive seen him play a few different ones from time to time. the only two i can remember off the top of my head is a mccarty burst i believe and a custom santana "standard" stoptail. pretty much an all mahog santana with a red finish and stoptail

I'll bet his pal Jimmy H. turned him onto them.
    Although Warren has one too.

Of course he's a dork, he's a guitarist, we're all dorks. Somewhere along the line we just managed to fool the general public into believing we're cool ;)

I remember when Strats and Les Pauls were not cool. I remember when you couldn't give away a guitar with a P90. I remember when a 12lb. Gibson wasn't enough and you had to add another 3 lb. Badass bridge. Those were the days when you had to have a strate bodied guitar with one pickup, one knob, and extremely flat thin neck and a paint job that showed everyone what a party animal you were. I guess before they hit it, Slash and Kurt Cobain weren't cool.

I don't play PRS guitars, but I have in the past. I think they are extremely well-made, great sounding guitars.

It would have been the McCarty, as i know it wasn't a Santana shaped body. couldn't tell/remember if it was a burst or a tortoise finish. anyways, he sounded good, not too different. He also played the les paul for a couple of songs too. I guess it goes to show that the majority of a good players sound is in the fingers not the gear. but i do love nice gear.

also, dorks or not, warren and derek are some of the most unassuming dudes out there. they both stopped and took pictures with me as they were walking to get back on stage during the drum solo break. warren even stopped to shake our hands and thank us for coming after he had taken pictures. i may be a dorky fan, but it means alot when these guys take the time for simple gestures like that. world class guys.

i think Derek would like either a 99 Braz McCarty or a recent DGT.... both wonderful guitars for the LP player...

I saw them on Oct. 3 in B'ham and he used a Les Paul on the encore.

I've seen Derek using PRS's as far back as the mid-90's, when he was still a teenager and would come out to sit in with the ABB for a song or two.

Yup, these guys can play on anything and sound stellar. It's the craftsman, not the tool.

I was about to call BS on OP meeting Gregg but then I realized this thread is 9 years old and somehow bubbled up from the nether regions.
