the year is 1999 and you have an off brand MP3 player that will hold exactly enough songs for all 10 of your favorite bands/artists full discography. Doesn't matter if it 3 albums by one band and 50 by another they fit, magically! You get on a plane and some stuff happens and you wind up all alone on a deserted island. What did you put on your player before he trip?

The first thing I'd pack is an extra power source. Off-brand MP3's didn't have great batteries, IIRC. No way you'd get through ten discographies in one charge.

That rules out a lot of good stuff from the past 17 years.

Ok, let's rewind and say the device is from 1999 but you can use anything even if it's current. I'm guessing you're going with Bieber?

I have a desert island top 12 because 10 just wont fit and there are always a couple in rotation, lol
However, I make my list for *albums* not bands.

Most of mine wouldn't be studio discography.A lot of it would be live performances by the

    Grateful Dead
    Allman Bros
    Steve Kimock
    Old era Mr. Blotto
    Umphrey's McGee

I'm sure not very many people have heard of Mr. Blotto, but they are fairly well known in the Chicago area. Great songs, playing and all that stuff. Check this out if you have time.

And someone mentioned Marty Friedman. Really dig he made someone's list. The thread title made me think of this.

Do I have to choose the bands I liked in 99, or for that matter material that was available in 99? Or in this magical scenario can I work off today?

LOL at the thought of using an off-brand MP3 player.
LOL again at the thought of me listening to something as lo-fi as an MP3.
LOL at the thought of me having to put songs onto this device myself - I got people for that.

    Spare me.
