i was on mytube and ended up watching the whip it video, i was looking at the guitar and noticed the wierd lower horn. here's a screencap, i have a theory that it could be just a regular les paul that the lower horn was cut off and put back backwards. what is it? i dont know why, but i wanan know lol.

I know his next guitar was a custom Ibanez (the blue bubbly one). I'll bet this one was a custom Ibanez too, made around the time of the "lawsuit" days.

thanks, that makes sence, the headstock looks to be very gibson shaped, so it makes sence that it could be law suit ibanez.

I miss Mark Mothersbaugh and the boys....a very witty group.

I wonder if he still works for Roland?

Ibanez's custom shop did several guitars for Mark Mothersbaugh- the 'reverse horn' LP-copy from the WhipIt video, the "cloud" guitar, and a few others. Mark was one of the first to get one from Ibanez's USA custom shop.

"Energy Domes" are tough to come by lately. A buddy of mine scored one a couple of years ago. I'll ask where he got it.

Since the DEVO days, Mark has taken the Danny Elfman-route and now does tons of movie and TV soundtracks.

One of his brothers, Jim, started Cruise Audio with another fellow (Mark Cruise?). The amp company has since gone away, but Jim still does heavy-duty electronic stuff...mainly govt. RF gear.

In the 20+ years that they've been available, DEVO's original Energy Domes have often been, like DEVO, misunderstood. Although they have been mistaken
for flower pots, dog bowls, car urinals, lamp shades, and eventually relegated specifically for use at office holiday parties, these holy totems were actually designed with a more important purpose in mind.

    Now It Can Be Told!

The plain truth about the Energy Dome

It was designed according to ancient ziggaurat
mound proportions used in votive worship. Like
the mounds it collects energy and recirculates it.
In this case the Dome collects energy that escapes from the crown of the human head and pushes it
back into the Medula Oblongata for increased
mental energy. It's very important that you buy
a cheap plastic hardhat liner, adjust it to your head size and affix it with duct tape or Super Glue to
the inside of the Dome. This allows the Dome to
"float" just above the cranium and thus do its job.
Unfortunately, sans hard hat liner, the
recirculation of energy WILL NOT occur.
