I saw and heard it on Saturday. Very nice and just the essential features.

That's a sight to behold! What's the deal with the prototype drive - is it a leader to another J-Drive change?

it doesn't appear to be the same format as the j-drive series. i didn't get a chance to ask about it as it was on the other board. i was playing with the marquis and the ml jr. they both sounded great. the ml jr is similar in layout to the tremolo with the spring loaded switch.

One thing obviously missing from the Jr is the tilt EQ. How are the repeats voiced on this one? Also, the modulation - how is the speed of that controlled? Finally - is the 'sound' of the pedal essentially that of a Memory Lane but with a longer maximum delay time?

Qs!

in that demo he said the max Delay time was gonna be 1200ms a little more than double the ML2, but he said it was digital, not a bucket brigade chip :(

Yeah; as we know with other analog echos, anything past 500-600ms will be dark. A limitation of the technology. Plus, I'm sure Diamond wanted to do something that complimented the venerable ML2, not cannibalize it.

I think it being digital is going to hurt them; there's tons of analog/tape-voiced digital delays on the landscape right now. I think the excitement to a Memory Lane jr. was just a smaller-footprint of the original; i.e.: smaller and still analog.

^^Maybe, my original thought too. But analog delays for the most part, are not the future of where delays are going, it is digital, whether they're analog voiced or not. Just so much more you can do with them, with less noise, longer delay times, better/more features. My concern with the Jr. is that it's only $30 less than a lot of other good delays like the Elp Cap, and $100 more than something like the upcoming TCE Flashback. But one thing the markets have shown us with delays, build it, and they will come. Very few seem to fail, unless they are uber expensive, or flawed mechanically, and the Jr. is likely to be neither.

I don't know if digital delays are necessarily the future; I think they are just the hot thing right now. Well, maybe that's naive... since the good BBD chips are discontinued, digital is probably the future. But there will always be a market for a nice-sounding analog delay. Seems like Diamond had a chance to put a good offering into that market. True, the big ML is a great analog delay, but it's huge and very expensive. I am personally way more excited about Malekko's 919 than I am about the ML jr.

The lack of good bbd chips is sort of what I meant, but you made your point clearer. If analog chips were a)more plentiful b)cheaper to use/buy then I think you might be right, more analog delays would be coming out. But few are really. I can't say I'm really all that excited for either the 919 or the ML Jr. I'm sure both will be great, but for my needs I would probably go with the ML Jr. However the Flashback has me more interested and it's half the price.

I would however, get another Malekko e600 delay, I shouldn't have sold mine. But I've heard (still a rumor?) than another version is coming out, this one with a tone control, so it can be either the bright or dark version. That, I would buy up quickly. The 616 didn't do much for me, maybe the 919 will. But probably more $ than I'll want to spend. The days of high end, expesive delays for me, is probably over, no matter how good.

Off topic perhaps, but I do not understand why we do not or cannot make good BBD chips anymore. Are we sliding back into the dark ages?
