    Hi all,
I recently bought 2 Eminence The Governor from an ebay auction at a very convenient price (40£ + shipping each, 100£ in total), but I wonder if they are genuine Eminence speakers.
The point is, as far as I know, Eminence The Governor has 2 versions:
    - big font + red frame (old version)
    - small font + grey/black frame (new version)

The speakers I received have the old big font, but with the new grey/black frame.
It's like they got a no-brand speaker, and they added a sticker on the back.
What can you gather from the 2 images below?
    Thanks a lot.

There are a lot of transitional units that have the old label on the newer frame. The last time I was speaker shopping, I came across all three versions of the Cannabis Rex and Texas Heat as well.

    Are you sure? :confused
The Cannabis Rex has the grey frame, both in the old and new version

The same apply to the Texas Heat

I've never seen a Texas Heat or a Cannabis Rex with a colored frame :confused :confused

If you email Eminence I,m sure they can answer your questions. I emailed them about identifying a speaker and buddy got back to me very quickly and was very helpful.

I don't think it would worthwhile to make the tool & die to stamp a basket that duplicates Eminence distinctive basket. I'm reasonably certain that it's not a counterfeit.

It's likely that Eminence decided to eliminate one paint (or powder coat) line, and the Redcoat is now charcoal colored.

What you probably have is a new Governor with an old label.

Mind you the old frame is gray wrinkle paint, the new frame is gloss black.

The best way to find out is to fire it up: if it sounds spiky and gritty and harsh with loads of ice pick, it's Genuine Eminence All the Way.

Just kidding, just kidding. I have two Emi speakers. And they're only a little spiky and gritty and harsh. :p :Do_O:cool:

I followed your suggestions and asked Eminence.

They told me that sometimes they sell their products to a cabinet manufacturer in bulk. When a customer purchases in bulk, they can leave the red paint off to save money. The label design is the original Governor label, so those are genuine Eminence made Governor.
    :banana
The production date is 50th week of 2009.

They're not brand new, as stated in the ebay auction, but they're real Eminence Governor for sure. They are probably been get off a speaker cabinet.
I was ready to sent them back to the ebay seller, but now I can breathe a sight of relief :beer

    This:

It's very apparent when a store has them side-by-side in stock. It seems like they still used the older labels for a little while after the frames changed.

Why would anyone fake an Eminence speaker? They're plentiful and cheap.

I don't think they're fake, but call the company to ease your mind. There is enough profit margin to fake these in lower labor/materials cost countries, but they would have to move a lot, and I mean a lot, of units of speakers to make it worth their effort. I doubt that's occurring.

I have a couple of their speakers and they don't sound anything like that to me. The GA-SC64 and GB128 are both great speakers in my book.

If you are going through the trouble of faking a speaker I think making a copy of a Celestion would be more profitable.

Oh, I could've sworn my C-Rex speaker was red framed. It's inside a closed-back cab - next time I open it up I'll have a look.

Also: Good work OP on contacting Eminence. Nice one. Glad you got the genuine article.

They make approximately 528 different speakers.

    Very good...

Not Eminence - related, but I remember the best review i ever read was of a Marshall Valvestate amp. It said it pulled off the remarkable feat of being both tinny and muddy at the same time...
