I have never compared the 2 versions but I do wish version II had the speaker switching function that version I had. That is a nice feature.
I have a version 1 SD30... but also have never compare the versions. Likewise, i've not found a use for the speaker switching . I think i may actually have found a use for the modern mids, depending on where their frequencies are. All in all the version 1 is a great amp.
According to Budda, a bright switch is incorporated into the Rhythm control, and the mid controls new pull-shift function is the only thing that separates the Series II from the previous Superdrive.
That isn't the only difference. As I mentioned, the speaker switching capability. The original Superdrive was point-to-point wired as well.
I would have mentioned that as well but I thought your main question was whether the 2 versions sounded any different.
