Been told that its more of a name game, just Mullard being more prestigious than a Philips, but is that true...no tonal differences?

Convincing people that transistors have inherent 'tone' is the biggest heist the boutique industry ever pulled.

All kidding aside I think the US stuff is superior to the Brit devices in terms of consistency and overall quality and as a builder thats what I look for. You will never convince people that anything is better than whatever mojo part some player was rumored to have in their pedal. If people want that part, they wont listen to any information against it.

Not sure about Amperex, but Phillips did own Mullard and Valvo. Mullard were produced in England. Allegedelly more consistent because of the amount of work contracted for military use. Phillips were produced in Holland and Valvo in Germany.

    Hey....

But in all seriousness I spent less on my board than most TGPer's do...got 4 pedals. Had a few more but sold them out of profit, I'm just more in to researching them and then when I find one thats really right for me and worth the purchase. So my sickness is more of being obsessed with research, not buying :D.

...half the people on this thread are talking about tubes, the other half transistors. :crazy

No idea as to which ones the OP was referring to and no personal experience with neither company's trannies or Mullard tubes, only used vintage Phillips'.

Taking into account Mr. mahler's obsession with MKIIs, I assumed he was talking about transistors.
