I'm looking at picking up a new es 335 and the neck specified is a 1963 slim taper. Almost all other descriptions just say a 60's slim taper or a 1960 slim taper. Just wondering what the difference is. Thanks.

I m not familiar with newer gibbies so I m not sure but it might just be that the 63 has block inlays.

All my original 63's block had a neck pretty damn far from a 60 Slim taper actually so i m not sure what that is about :jo

I d call a historic collection dealer and ask if i were you, might be a mistake in the listing and most likely it is .

I don't have an answer to your specific question, but I know from experience that the slim taper necks on the 1960's Classic Les Paul's are quite a bit different from the slim taper 60's neck in my VOS SG Special.

Well, between say 1960-1962 Gibson necks got pretty darn slim. Around 1963 they fattened up a tad, not to the 50's thickness, but generally thicker than a 60-62 neck.
I don't know anything about new Gibsons, though.

I own a LP Classic and I recently played a LP Standard with a 60s neck. The two necks were like night and day. The neck on the Standard felt like a pencil compared to the neck on my Classic. I always thought they were the same neck.

During the early to mid-60s Gibson change the nut width on 335s from 1-11/16ths to 1-5/8ths? That could be the difference...the taper could be the same but a different nut width.

Didn't they go down to 1 9/16 by about 1964? That is pretty darn narrow at the nut.
