Diminished lines...

    It is sad to me that the "proper" diminished scale does not contain the b5 of the target chord, which would lead so nicely to the 5 of the target chord. Maybe I'll use it anyway!

    * When I say "proper" I mean the dim scale used for either the vii chord or the V7b9 chord.

    If you by ear, you don't let the chatter in your head confuse you. Brain chatter is best kept in the practice room dont you think?

    Regarding dissonant tones that resolve well to the target chord, all you need are the notes 1/2 step below and 1/2 step above the notes of the target chord. These are the b2, b3, 4, b5, b6, and 7 of the major triad of the target chord. 3 of these notes are in the dim chord rooted on the 7th note of the scale.
