PRS question. I’ve had my CE22 for years and love it, but in certain light the silver side dots disappear. Does PRS still use silver dots and anyone else have that issue?

Usually I’m fine with muscle memory, but I’ve been under the weather a bit and at my gig the other night the lighting on stage was just dim enough and colored just right to make me feel disoriented all evening and side dotless.

Maybe I’ll put in drops of whiteout (what I do on my fretless bass).

it wouldn't matter what they used, there would be someone somewhere that didn't like it...

I have a lot of trouble with side dots. I have to have a guitar with binding or a maple necked Fender. I used my 2000 CE22 at a festival gig a few years ago and everything was fine until it got dark and the stage lights came on and those silver dots were in shadow. I had to find just the right spot to stand so I could see them...

Contrast is the key. I’ve had Rosewood board guitars that the side dots had darkened, and those dots disappear under stage lights.

I agree that Lumilay seems an obvious answer. I totally understand the anxiety of disappearing sidedots on stage when the opening song demands a strong riff and you are standing on the blacked out stage.

Had a Korean Fender Lite Ash Tele with pearl fretboard dots on a maple 'board. Totally invisible under stage lights. Got them replaced with black ones.

I've done several with the Luminlay dots.. under normal lighting they just look like a nice detail.. and under low lighting.. they are superb..

Another vote for Luminlay. Years of playing a guitar without fretboard dots made me more dependent upon side dots. Not my guitar but it gives an idea of the effect.

Yup, luminlay. My roasted maple Warmoth neck came with black dots. Fine in daylight, but disappeared under anything less. I installed some of the luminlay's and love em! I like the ones that are a black ring with the white glow dots in the middle. One of my favorite mods!

So how do you play with your eyes closed?
    My Baja had misplaced dots.

I have a Schecter PT... it is an absolute beast of a guitar. Really, there is not enough hyperbole to describe how nice the guitar is, but...

It has these stupid friggin glow-in-the-dark side dots, though. Visibility on stage is zero. Zero. I have to put orange dot stickers on the side before gigs. So stupid.

I used an easier solution, a silver sharpie. It comes off with alcohol and a bit of rubbing and stands out nicely in the dark.

At the 12th fret the markers were not aligned but rather the second dot was higher and "misplaced."
