    Well ok....

I didn't exactly ditch 'em....but I did the old "turn an Epi into a sorta 335" thing and just can't put it down!

This is through a modeller though - not horrible but my amp sounds better.

Just go to my site and start the fake, lo-fi TEAC reel-to-reel player.

    Edit:
    .....or maybe this other one!

    Hi Russ,

I thought it was very good.

If you have time I would like to know what you did to your Epi and what Epi you started out with?
I also would like to know what modeller and amp model you used.

    Cheers,

    Mats N

Great stuff. I'd also like to hear what kind of Epi mods you did.

    Thanks for the compliments guys!

I bought a used Epi Sheraton II and replaced the all the electronics. CTS 500k pots, switch and jack are both Switchcraft I think. Neck PU is a Gibson '57 Classic. Haven't decided what I want for a bridge PU yet.....still has one bad buzz on the A string at the 13th fret due to a high fret.
Still haven't made the jump to flatwounds - using EB Power Slinkys (.011 to .048)

My modeller is a Yamaha DG Stomp. I use the Crunch I setting for everything - clean to varying amounts of grit - just change the gain.

I have an Epi Sorrento that I use for slide, keep it in open A most of the time...the guitar really seems to like and hold that tight tuning. I also used to have a DG Stomp but couldn't ever get a grasp on using it.

Have you ever played or looked into SD pups?

Dave has first hand experience with Epi's, in fact...he also has a Sorrento like mine. Anyway, check it out.

Oh yeah definitely. I took way too long to decide on a neck PU but I'm happy with my choice. I had a lot of recordings to reference the '57 classics and it seemed right in line with what I had figured I wanted as far as DC resistance and type of magnet. For the bridge I'll probably go with something just a tad bit hotter but not much. I would think that with as much midrange that's inherent to a semi-hollow like this I might want to not get a PU that's going to add too much more. I know I don't want a ceramic magnet.....

I've got a black turtleneck on, black beret, blacked out sunglasses, an expressionless face, sitting in a dark corner of a small dive with brick walls, a lit candle on my small, round table...with one full beer and an empty one.

    very nice.
