Divided by 13 EDT 13/29 is the best D13 to date

I have owned and or played extensively the following D13's
FTR37(several)
CJ11
ERT33
JRT 9/15
SJT 10/20
RSA 31
RSA23

I just recieved my EDT 13/29 and its absolutely the best. Its like the FTR but capable of being played at lower volumes and still has that FTR sound. It also mixes in a bit of the RSA23 and marshalls it up with those big KT66's. Its loud enough for a gig and a big drummer and sounds like a 2x12 even though the one I recieved is a 1x12. Its chimes like the RSA31. And the reverb is the best that I have heard now from Fred.

This amp is basically to me all the D13 amps wrapped up into one. It is perfectly happy at home in the bedroom or on the gig. Its perfect.

The only caveat, is there is no click channel. I personally never liked the click channel. Its a fun sound but uneccesary and 9/10 times a simple boost on the normal channel was better than the click anyway.

This was not a cheap amp, they run over $3k. But if I had to own one amp that sounded great and did the marshall, vox, fender but in one package then this would be it. so the price is a bargain.

Fred is really improving, not that he was ever bad, but this amp is the best. Its not just a jack of all trades. It has its own thing that gives you a little of all your favorite amps. NICE!

I do not have clips just yet. I will work on that.

For those that loved the RSA23 but wanted less gain more clean headroom.. Well.. This is it and more.

For those that loved the FTR37 but thought it was too loud(I did) then this is that and more.

I have done some comparisons and this is the best D13 I have heard. Its a total WOW plug in and play type of experiance.

Its lightweight too. I did not expect that but I believe the whole rig is just under 50 lbs.

I love pedals and have a huge pedal board and this amp is a pedal hog. It loves to be slammed with pedals.

Ok, i am gushing now. I have gone through a load of amps and this one just hits all the marks for me.

I played both the SJT 10/20 and the EDT 13/29 quite extensively. I couldn't decide which I liked more!

I like your comparrison relation to the RSA23 and FTR37.
I somewhat feel the same way...

Plus you stated in your 1st post, it had chime of a RSA31.
And,
It takes pedals well.

Sounds like the perfect amp for me!

The EDT is phenomenal. It seems low on the radar here. But in talking with fred it is becoming quite popular. I can imagine once the word gets out the EDT is probably going to be the "hard to get" D13. Its absolutely perfect. It really does take a little of all the great aspects of what D13 means and bottles it in one neat little package. Great review.

I like that it's a combo. And I suspect that there a more than a few other prospective purchasers who prefer combos.

my roommate plays an EDT 13/29 combo, and it sounds phenomenal. I don't think the cleans are quite as chimey as the FTR 37, but man, does this amp SING. when pushed, you get a huge tone that is super fat and warm. the amp breaks up beautifully and produces a very thick creamy overdrive that is unbelievable. The amp takes pedals very well as do most of Fred's amps. i think this is easily one of the best 30-watters i've ever played or heard.

OK, what pedals seem to be working best with the EDT? What are you using to nudge it into OD at lower volumes? Thanks.

I've had my EDT 13/29 Head/1x12 Cab for about 4 months now, and I'm still learning about how unbelievable the amp really is. I foolishly attempted to sell it at a low financial point near the end of '07, but have recovered, and I'm not gonna move this one. I've played the FTR37, RSA31, owned the JRT 9/15. The EDT is so versatile that I don't see a reason NOT to get it, especially if you are already considering a D13. This is my first experience with a KT66 amp, and now I realize what I've been missing. The cleans are smooth and refined. In 29 watt mode it can handle any clean blues or jazz up to a medium sized club. I find myself using it mostly in the 13 watt mode, so I can get a little more drive cooking in the amp. This amp really shines past noon, and completely nails classic rock and blues rock tones. It's got a HUGE bold sound to it, and it's deceptively louder than what's coming out of the single 12" speaker.

Reverb is fantastic. Bass and Treble controls work very well. The push/pull mid gain boost turns this amp into a real firebreather!

It seems as though many of you are looking for clips. I may be able to put some together this weekend. I'd most likely do the following:

- Clean w/ tele (29 watt)
- Break-up w/ tele (13 watt)
- Full bore volume w/ tele - with/without boost engaged (13 watt)

My tele is a 50s reissue - ash/maple, lollar special bridge, wcr crossroads neck, glendale saddles, 5-way switch with split bucker tones available.

I'll also try the same settings with my LP Junior if I have time. If anyone would like to hear something specific, let me know and I'll try and showcase it to the best of my abilities.

I've pretty much decided on a D13 amp after much teeth gnashing - something to compliment my JMJ30 and Club 40 amps.

I think this 13/29 is the one for me. I have a years worth of vintage KT66 experience now with various clear/smoke bottles used in my Germino. There is nothing like them in the cream dept...if that's your thing.

But here's my Q: can I get the head with the boxy looking 2x12 (looks like a small 4x12 old-school style) cab I see on their site ? I love that classic look.

Then I need to decide on a color scheme. I'm thinking black/cream-v. But I might want a color to compliment my black cloth NCM Vox 2x12 loaded w/ vintage silvers...unreal cab.

I'm a D13 rookie - but excited. Any thoughts ?

Cool thread. Great looking amp.

Can someone tell me why nobody seems to be raving the JRT 9/15? Am I missing something here? I heard one and thought it was great.

Any shared knowledge would be much appreciated...
