I picked up David Kidds ERT 33 this past weekend and remembered why I fell in love with Fred's amps in the first place.

I did miss some of the mids that I have with my 9/15 or with my AC30 so I thought about adding a G12H30 with my blue in my 2x12.

I called Fred to order a switchhazel and mentioned that I had picked up the amp. He then said that he could change the 33 into 31 specs. The only difference would be that the midrange would be all the way up. This is the AC30 mid's setting that I like. The 31 gives you a mid control where you can back out the midrange if you desire. There will be no midrange control on the 33 conversion.

I had a chance to play the amp and it sounds amazing. A killer vox styled amp with reverb and a /13 click channel for that amazing gain tone!

Any of you guys with 33's might want to think about dropping the extra 2bills to have yours changed. I think that it is definately worth it!

    :D

    That sounds very interesting!

Can you describe the difference you are hearing when comparing the 33 with its mid/gain boosted by pulling the volume to the 31 mod version?

    Thanks

It's different....it kinda changes the entire tone stack of the amp. This mod might not be for everyone but if you like an ac30 you will dig this.

If you like your mids a little scooped then you might just leave it alone.

Oh I definitely don't like 'em scooped.

You mention the whole tone stack changing - what sort of change were you hearing in the high end response of the amp?

Am I correct in thinking that the click channel remains as stock?

    Thanks
    Chris

    hey joe!

I think you should DO IT! I think that amp could use it and Im sure the sound would be killer with a little more midrange. Enjoy and let me know how it turns out.

    Mastervolume,

I'd love a report once you get it done - the mids issue is one of the reasons my 33 is on my "for sale" list... perhaps this might make a difference.

    Thanks
    Chris

I'm getting my 33 converted to 31 specs. I played a 31 and had my socks knocked off. Like an incredible 60's AC with non of the problems.
    Awesome.

Does this mod retain the killer bottom end the 33 is capable of?

the 33 with rsa31 conversion sounds great. still has the chimey top, and big bottom the 33 already had... but now the mids are more present and doesnt feel as "scooped". really cuts through. really great sounding.. plus it has verb.

I apologize for hi-jacking the thread, just wanted to know about the tube situation.

Mastervolume, I am thinking about having this conversion done to my 33.

Now that you have lived with the amp are you still happy with the results?
