I own 3 div/13 amps, RSA 23+31 and FTR 37 and think they are great sounding heads, especially using Fred's cabs.
I am just interested in whether other owners have run their amps on NOS or more specialised valves, rather than the GT's. Don't get me wrong love the sound how they are, and for reliabilty can understand the choice but have an itching to try a few things.
    Would appreciate any input

    Cheers!

I can give you a little input. I own the RSA 23 and I loved the sound with the stock tubes. NOS tubes do make a difference. It doesnt make it sound extremely better or worse, but it is noticable. I am running an rft, mullards, and ge 12ax7s. I did not spend the big dollars on NOS kt88's for that amp, so I went with the Chinese kt88's, which I prefer over the JJ's that came in the amp.
CHanging the 12ax7s made the amp a little darker, but the note to note definition is a little better. Hope this helps. ~Kyle

I think most modern amps are designed to sound great with whats available today tube wise, so while NOS gems will probably make your rig sound better, I dont think its necessary to chase down a set of NOS tubes to get a good tone. I do recommend spending some coin and getting a NOS rectifier tube, as they are much more durable than the ones you get today. I have a NOS Mullard GZ34 labeled as RCA that goes in all my new amps and I have been swapping it around for years.

I've got an LDW 17/39 and while I haven't changed the power tubes yet - I did put some NOS 12AX7s in it. I can tell you that it reacts to tube changes very well. I could immediatly hear the difference - and it was an improvement from my standpoint. I can only imagine it would react the same with NOS power tubes. I've got some Siemens/RFT EL34s waiting for when it's time!

That's just an excuse some boutique makers use to justify why they ship their amps with the cheapest tubes on the market

    True

    Very true!
