I'm no tele expert, but a couple hours would be fine. I'm near you and it's not even cold out. Go ahead an open it.

If by some freak thing, it does check you could sell it for a profit.

Open it a little at a time, let it stabilize the temp a little and thats good enough, if you hadn't done it already.

If it feels like it's freezing cold, leave it for a few hours- if it's not..why wait?

I've never waited, and I've never had problems. It would be pretty sad to instantly get some finish checking though, unless that's your thing (not that there's anything wrong with that).

here's what happened to my Jag after being shipped in a blizzard to the beach:

I waited about 8hrs but I think this happened before I got it...I couldn't feel the cracks and could barely see them, this pic angle was intentional to bring out the cracks, they're not nearly as dramatic IRL

How do you think the originals got checked? ..... people who gig don't go to a bar and then tell the owner that they'll be ready to play in 24 hours after the guitar temp stabilizes :huh

I usually go by the hardware of the case. When the metal latches reach room temp I feel it's pretty safe to open.

Let it sit couple of hours and just opened her up. An absolutely beautiful instrument. The most resonant guitar I've ever played. 7.4lbs, haven't plugged it in yet. Thanks Casey @ Daves Guitars.

Exactly. I'm sure that some (most?) of the "grail" instruments have not been coddled during their lives. That's why some of them look like they do. Take reasonable care of your instrument and use your best judgement.

I wish some bar owners would tell the guitarist to sit in the corner for 24 hours.

    Agreed to.

Laughter is the best way to conceal the fact that you're a passenger in life and don't think anything through.

I think the comment about the hardware reaching room temperature is really cool. I like it, and when my guitars ever leave the sultry South, I will do that.

For a solid body guitar coming from a snowy climate to me at the sunny beach, I figure it's spent many hours already in a warm truck out for delivery--I open right away!
