I have a habit of not opening new pedals to remove the battery before I Velcro it to my board. I've found old batteries that have just started to disintegrate, but haven't done any damage yet.

Just a friendly reminder (as most of us use power supplies other than batteries) to remove your battery.

All the time. I remember to check the used pedals I buy after months of using them on my board.

Those things add up in weight when you have a lot of them ...

I check every single one, except the ones that clearly won't have them, like Strymons.

I always check for batteries when I get pedals...I don't use them, haven't for several years. I wish people would just keep them when selling their pedals and put them in their smoke alarms or something ;)

I keep batteries in the pedals in case the power to the pedal board quits. I've had that happen before.
I do change them out every couple years.
