Can you play 80s style hard rock with them? And what kind do you have?
Lynch, EVH and Dimartini all used them in the 80's...
Need I say more??
Just depends on the amp its mated with. In most cases I'd say yes........but with my old Shiva boosted with a overdrive thru a greenback cab it was fuzzy sounding.
I love mine.4x12 basketweave Marshall with a Komet K60.I do think that they have more of a 70's sound though.Sure, some people may have used them thru the 80s but i know when i play them, they don't sound 80's at all.
I've got a Marshall 1960TV 4x12 loaded with Greenbacks. I love 80's metal/hairband and classic rock. The cab has always worked for me with both of those style. I actually prefer the greenback sound over all other speakers I have tried.
Greenbacks...love 'em. But since there are eight different versions which ones are you referring to?
T1221 G12M 20 watt and 25 watt 75 hz lead cones...
T1511 G12M 20 watt and 25 watt 55hz bass cones...
T1217 G12H30 25 and 30 watt 75hz lead cones...
T1281/T1534 G12H30 25 and 30 watt 55hz bass cones...
There are basically four different types, each with some extra wattage ratings... then there are the later 70's models (T2168, etc), and the 80's Greenback T1221 reissues, UK made, Chinese made...sheesh...it's a pretty wide and deep subject when you say "Greenback" loaded cabs, sir.
As for the ones I like? In no particular order...
71 Straight, w/G12M T1221 102 003 75 hz lead cones
69 Straight, w/G12H30 T1281 102 014 55hz bass cones
Early 70 (Feb 10th) Slant w/G12M T1511 102 014 55hz bass cones
Early 71 Straight cab (recovered) w/Scumback SA12H-55's
Late 84 Slant (recovered) w/ two G12H30 Pre Rola's, and two SA12H speakers...
I've got plenty of Greenback tone...
I guess they're the new ones. The ones that are in the new Marshall 1960X cabs.
Thanks. I think that pretty well covers it.
I have the first Aiken 2x12 built and it has greenbacks....and it rocks. It is also slightly larger than the ones he marketed, as it is the prototype.
Well if they're good enough for Eddie, they're good enough for me.
I've got a Peavey 5150 cab that I loaded with Greenbacks on top and Wizards on the bottom. Great combo, I love it! My other cab is a 1960AV. Love both, depends on my mood/guitar on which one is more happening at any given moment.
I have a set of the RI's in my 1960A cab.
Hopefully to be replaced with Scumback versions in the near future.
I have four 2x12 cabs and each one has at least one GB in it.
Good stuff, for sure.
