Supposedly the cops have a confession, but the water was 46 degrees and evidently their kayaks were utterly unsuited to the conditions.

From what I've read, without a life vest, 46 degree water will doom even the best swimmer in short order.

    What do you think?

Well, 46 is pretty damned cold. I would imagine your above observation that even a great swimmer not lasting long is probably fairly accurate.

PA state regulations state that a boater (unpowered as well) must wear a PFD until 1 May. The reason being that the water temps should be over 50 by that time. Most people don't consider the physiological reactions that your body has in water that cold. The lack of a PFD in water temps below 50 is suicide.

I don't think anyone is debating wether water that temp can kill you, that's a given. It's more about what was supposedly in her diary and other evidence the police haven't shared - without that, how can anyone do anything but guess?

Would it change your mind if I told you that she was the beneficiary of $250k in insurance proceeds at the time of the accident?

    Really cold too... ;)

Me neither, but whoever actually committed the murder (if there was one) is guilty...

I saw a talk by a lady who'd kayaked up a river and into the Arctic Ocean. She wound up at a village and asked the Inuit why they didn't wear PFDs.

They laughed and said if you go over, you're dead - the water was in the low 40s.
