I recall vaguely that someone around here had a thread where they had either a PT20 or a DSM get modded to include a clean channel. I just cant recall whether it was Friedman himself who did it, or an outside modder. Does Friedman do mods for his own amp lines?

Does anyone know the answer to this particular question.

What mods did you have done?

I wonder if he can turn a Dirty Shirley mini into a JJJr. and cost effectively at that considering the shipping both ways.

Had mustard caps and an S switch added. He also checked tubes.

Doesn't sound realistic or cost effective to turn a DSM into a JJJ but I could be wrong.

    What’s an S Switch?

Man, a Dirty Shirley Mini with a dedicated clean and the dirt channel to cover all gain ranges would sound dynamite.

Just remember there is a limit to the mods that really can be done.

Is there a list floating around anywhere about available mods?

I can turn your Dirty Shirley Mini into a JJ Jr for $1499.

Actually you can sell your DS Mini fast and easy for $1000. And you can buy the JJ Jr for $1499 full retail.

So I wouldn’t pay anyone very much for modding it.

You'd probably have to ask Friedman. I don't know if he's got a standard list of mods that he does to his amplifiers. Some custom amp makers and modders like Fuchs keep a standard list of mods they do to amplifiers. And they also have a list of which amps they can turn into an ODS.

I mean, if money is no object, I'm sure there would be some day to turn a DS40 into a BE50, but why would you want to, when it would be far easier and cheaper to just sell the DS40 and get the BE50?

My main interest would be simply adding a clean channel to a PT 20 or DSM. Runt is great, but I don’t like the gain on it as much as I do the other two.

Just send an email to Dave and ask him if he will do your particular mod... He replies to emails surprisingly fast. The man is amazing to deal with. He will be straight with you on if what you want is reasonable or not.

I'm sending a Runt 50 to him for the JBE mod and new "Smallbox" style headshell. Should turn out pretty awesome.

Well, I did this week. And sadly he says no more simple clean channel additions for the DSM or PT...says they’re too small to make it work well.oh well.

That is exactly what I have and am curious about doing with my Runt 50. Was the headshell an option or is it needed to do the JBE mod?

My buddy had Dave mod his Slax clean channel to the Plexi channel of the SB. Said it took about a week or so I think and he was super easy to deal with.

Oooh, a de facto 50 watt JJ Jr.!
    Well played sir!

You should get him to give it the JJ cosmetic treatment for a one off future grail, the JJ Bastard!

No the head shell needs to be replaced because of some shipping damage and I love the clean black tolex look so that’s what I’m going with.

Lol, yeah that was kinda the idea behind it. Having the bigger power section should be nice over the el-84’s in the Jr.

Isn’t the BE channel of the JJ different from the standard be voicing though? Before the sat switch is even involved?

Sounds like an awesome idea just wondering how involved this mod is? I’m kinda interested
