I'm looking for something fairly affordable. If there is a Ceriatone kit that works too. I'm wondering if this doesn't describe something like a Bluesmaster circuit.

    1. 2 Channels
    2. Fat bassman cleans.
    3. Overdriven deluxe style OD.
    4. Effects loop
    5. <50 watts
    6. Reasonably compact head (just not a huge marshall head)

I would look at the Mark V 25.

I've looked at it a bit but Channel 2 seems too heavy and modern for me. Possibly just the clips I've heard though.

Listening more I wish the Mk. V had a Mk. 1 setting on channel 2.

That's the problem, power amp distortion sounds very different from cascaded preamp tube distortion. A pedal would sound more like a cranked Deluxe.

Im pretty sure Mesa makes amps with different operating classes and actual outputs in the same amp. So like a front end 50 watt high gain channel 1 and then a 18 watt overdriven power tube crunch on channel two.
    WITH different output tubes.

I'm fine with preamp dirt but I want something more ragged and vintage sounding.

That would be news to me! I had a Mark III with some kind of weird Simul-Class output switch. It didn't work for me at all! I hated that amp so I've ignored Mesa ever since. maybe they do have some new trick.

Check out this review of the Mini Rec - I expected anything with "Rectifier" in the name would be all about modern hi gain, but this demo seems to bring out a lot of really nice vintage tones:

I recommend looking at Frenzel's Super Deluxe - does a good bassman/JTM [2 preamps] vibe, loop, will Run 6V6 thru KT120 power tubes - no re bias, full/half/quarter power switch. Narrower than a marshall, but deeper. $695 for the amp with no headshell - they are available. Frenzelamps.com, lots of clips on YT.

I've looked at them before and liked what I heard. I'll look again.
