Anyone tried those two bridge pickups?

I already have the SuperSports in my Haar ash/maple tele.
Really love them but sometimes i feel that the bridge pup finds it hard to handle over-overdriven sounds. The low-mids become muddy and the highs are way too many. So i was thinkin of replacing it with the 0038 Keefer.

Searching for a woody, fat, ballsy, liquid, OD-frienldy bridge pickup with pronounced mids, tight bass and nice not harshy/icy highs. I am not a twang guy. Just looking for a nice vintage rock tone!

The 0038 I had a while back was ALL balls. Can't compare to the Super Sport, though. If I remember right it was wound hotter than normal, like 13k or something like that.

Best to ask Mare himself. He's very helpful. Good guy for sure.

    :agree

When I got my set from Don, he spent quite a while on the phone with me discussing what I was looking for and playing his pickups to determine what would work best.

i have the 38 keefer in the bridge of tele. deadly pick-up.....makes me smile. i don't think i would ever replace it. it just sounds like pure rock n roll. it sounds so warm and old like you are back in the 50's.... i really love it. epic for slide and blues also. i think if you are looking for something with a mid focus, this is the one -it reallly cuts through in a warm woody kind of way. i have not tried the sports so i can't comment on those, but the keefer sounds a mile better than the duncan 50's tele pu i had in there before.

Yes, I have tried both. Sounds like you should try the OO38. It has that little extra that sounds like it would be perfect for you. Lower the volume knob and it sounds close to the Super Sport but has that extra when you want it. I really like both pickups a lot.

I have a set of Hayrides in my Ash/Rosewood Warmoth Tele.
And they are killer, I can play spanky clean or classic rock.
Very articulate with great string clarity in "all" chords!!

If I was a rich man, I'd have a room full of Teles and each would have a different set of Don's PUs.

As it is, I have the DoNocaster set in a Pine parts Tele , and a Zepotone Studio / El Black Krowe tapped bridge in a 62 RI Tele. Terrific pickups...

The 0038 is the next one I want to try. I have an Onamac Nocaster (? I think? Got it used...) that is A3 10K in my Pine esquire right now and it's great---- A Mare 0038 at similar specs would be great to try for comparison.
