There's little other option unless you are also savvy at technical things and marketing so you can run your own distribution channel independently from the "funnel to spotify" distribution channel. The problem is, many music fans think there's something wrong with you if you aren't on spotify even though it's borderline theft in terms of the payout.

It’s 2019 and the music business has imploded.. on a brighter note, Tedeschi Trucks Band just realeased a great new CD or record recorded in their home studio.. you go to their website and buy it! That’s the way to do business in 2019.. f...Spotify

That doesn't seem like Doyle Bramhall II to me.

Perhaps if he got rid of the face paint. That would cut down on the overhead a bit.

Spotify issues aside, I can think of worse ways for him to spend time than talking to his fans.

The industry largely asked for this.

They thought they could protect CD sales and the status quo of the 90s into the 2000s by going ape-**** on their customers. A pastime many musicians joined in. Then when the first streaming services came out they still didnt take the hint, and the tech companies got to set the terms of engagement and had all the bargaining power and now the payouts massively benefit the tech companies and the few people with their names at the top of those contracts (which btw is nothing new).

To suggest someone who pays for Spotify, a legal service who has contracts with all of the content owners, therefore making it definitionally not stealing, is stealing, is risible.

    Zero sympathy.

PS I buy t-shirts at concerts all the time when I like an artist.

I hate where things are today, largely because of streaming services (legal and illegal). But I couldn’t agree more — accusing people who pay for a legitimate service of “stealing” is absurd.

Well after that rant he probably won't have to worry about doing meet and greets anymore. He should be glad people are even willing to shell out to meet him.

If artists of the caliber of Dio, Rory Gallagher, Robin Trower are/were willing to spend hours after gigs chatting with fans signing stuff..for free..who does this guy think he is?

Judging from the article, it sounds like maybe he should’ve stayed in school past the fourth grade.

    Yeh.

I was a big danzig era misfits fan. Samhain, Danzig all that to. That remark kinda sucks though, considering most the bands I go see hang out afterwards and talk to fans for free. Picture album full of pics, for free. Although, if I go see them I do drop around $75-100 on merch with a bar tab that's doubled.

Paid meet and greets are becoming more and more common among musicians, comedians and other celebrities.

great quote from one of the commenters from the original article "Meanwhile his girlfriend's band is defending the theft of professional photographer's photos for commercial use. What goes around comes around, I guess."

Not sure I’d want to meet someone being forced to meet me.

I’d just skip that line, make my way onto the stage with my harmonica, and see if I can receive a front-kick to my chest cavity for free.
