I own a MAZ 18 Jnr, and was just wondering if anyone can explain the rough architecture of the circuit. Is it based on any other famous circuit? I've heard people compare it to a VOX, but from what I've seen of those circuits, they are much more complicated. Just wondering.

    John Philips? Or anyone else?

I once hear the original Maz 38 described as a Fender style preamp linked to a Vox style power amp circuit. I'm sure that's way oversimplified. Dr Z redid the gain structure somewhat when he designed the Maz 18, then redesigned the Maz 38 to be more like the 18.

From the looks of the inside, it still looks VERY simple compared to a Fender circuit.

I used to have a '65 Deluxe Reverb and was shocked at how complicated that amp was compared to, say, a Marshall.

Don't quote me on this ..but I believe it is a Parallel triode (both halves of the 12AX7 are used for the 1st pre-amp stage) ...and vox'ish the rest 'o' the way

    Don't forget the "conjunctive filter".
