I was teetotal for about eight years following a health issue, and since I started drinking again it's been maybe once or twice a month and then only a pint or two. As a few others have said, I feel like I've been there, done that when it comes to drinking and getting drunk just doesn't really appeal anymore.

I average about 1 beer per week. I drink it for the taste. I don't really enjoy alcohol as a drug.

I drank a lot when I was young. Later I drank occasionally and finally stopped completely, for almost 18 years (except for family get togethers). Over the last few years though, I find myself drinking more than I should, one beer some days, a six pack other days. My goal is to just stop completely.

Yeah, I've heard that one before. Look closer. You see lots of drunks, some actually old and many others who just appear old, because that's what happens with drunks. You don't see so many old doctors because they make enough money to stop working and go do whatever they want to do.

I like to drink, but the older I get the less I like to overdo it. A couple of beers is plenty for me these days, or a glass or two of tequila and lime over the course of an evening.

I drink until I don't want to drink anymore. So far, so good.

my grandmother had a glass of sherry every night before bed time. I guess it helped her sleep soundly. She lived to just shy of her 99th birthday.
I keep thinking I need to try that sometime but have never tasted Sherry.

Two drinks a night as a nightcap unless I'm drowsy after only one, or already drowsy without any. More than that is rare and usually regretted.

You are in the minority, my friend.

The overwhelming preponderance of humanity finds life dreary, boring, painful, and generally unpleasant

As a species, we have been trying to escape reality essentially since we gained consciousness.

    Congratulations :aok

I'm from your neck of the woods originally - Saddleworth, near Manchester. I think 'boozing' in England, or at least in the north, is all too often a ladsy, pub-based, beer-swilling affair. Aside from the alcohol itself, I simply couldn't stomach even a fraction of the muck I used to tip down my throat in my twenties and early thirties. In fact, I think the last pint I had must be around 10 years ago. However, a nice glass or two of red wine or whisky at night in the comfort of my own home - that's something I still like.

"The incidence of heart disease in those who drink moderate amounts of alcohol(no more than two drinks per day for men or one drink per day for women) is lower than in nondrinkers. However, with increased intake of alcohol, there are increased health dangers including high blood pressure, obesity, stroke." - American Heart Association

Since I had a "heart event" three years ago, I have one drink almost daily. I've never had high BP nor have I been obese. On the other hand, I'm wound pretty tightly so I "drink for medicinal purposes only": to reduce stress.

No. I don't drink every day. Maybe 2 days a week. Generally a couple martinis and a beer or two on a weekend night and/or a couple beers on a week night. Now back in the old days I REALLY didn't follow that rule. The working name for my last band was 30 pack and with good reason.
