for those that haven't heard, Drivin N Cryin had their trailer stolen over the weekend in Georgia. So far one guitar and one amp have been recovered from pawn shops in the area, but they're still lookin, and there's a $1000 reward for info. If someone with the power could, please make this an announcement, as the gang here on TGP probably sees more stuff on ebay and craigslist and such than the average person!

the link to the facebook info they have up (and the DNC facebook so you can contact them if you see/hear anything) is http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=5912085821&topic=15190

I feel bad for them, but when will bands learn?

This happens ALL THE TIME.

Seriously. Don't leave you stuff in a freaking trailer.

Are you supposed to move all that gear into your hotel room each night? Where do you suggest you put it?

Someone has to either sleep in the van, or they need to figure out a foolproof way to keep the trailer attached to the van.

I see these incident reports monthly it seems, yet nothing changes.

There are motion sensitive alarm systems that are inexpensive and work very well. I'm surprised that their insurance company didn't require them to have them.

When we played a show on the road, we traded off sleeping in the room and in the van. Four of us, 8 hours of sleep, 2 hours a piece in the van.

However, yes, I did bring my guitars and my board into the room. 5 extra mins. was well worth it.

Understood...but I was just responding to the "Seriously. Don't leave you stuff in a freaking trailer." ?????

Someone has to either sleep in the van,

If anyone is posted on "gear guard duty" in Georgia, they'd better be awake. And they'd better be armed.

Thieves these days will shoot you dead for $5, to say nothing of a trailer full of valuable (and easily sellable) musical equipment.

That sucks - bump. Hope their gear gets recovered. Borat had the right idea bringing a Grizzly with him for protection!

just invest in a nasty pit bull... chained to the trailer. End of thief problem.
just post 'danger - bad dog' on the trailer and let 'em have at it.

Hope you get your gear back....

Best defenses are backing trailer up to a building so there is no room to move it off of the hitch ball.

Other helpful things to do in addition are:

Locking hitch receiver

Locking hitch cap

Ruining treads under hitch ball nut so it can not be loosened off, of tack weld nut on.

Boot on trailer wheel so it cannot be towed away

Hardened trailer safety chains held on by hardened bolts on trailer end and attached to truck frame via hardened unbreakable locks

For less than $500 you can make it 1000% harder on the criminals and since most are not traveling with a torch, they move on to easier targets.

Now there is someone who is thinking.

This should be required reading of anyone doing the trailer n' van tour.

thanks for the bumps, y'all. you would think as long as kevin's been doing this he'd know all this stuff ;)

there's a couple important things to remember, too, about trailers that i've noticed and talking to my insurance agent confirmed....

plain white trailers are the least messed with, black being the most
trailers with band stickers, motorcycle stickers, custom graphics, really anything raise the likelihood of your trailer getting messed with exponentially

Ouch! This sucks for them! I used to be friends w/ Mac way back when. I'll post it up on FB and it should get around. He and I still have a bunch of mutual friends.

Whats odd (and I'm sure there is a good reason for it) is that this happened in Atlanta. Thats where they live, so I'm not sure why the stuff was left in a trailer to begin with, instead of a rehearsal space or at their homes.
