I'm left handed, don't care about proper silverware etiquette but I always eat with my left hand unless it's steak (beef or chicken fried doesn't matter) then I shovel that in with my right hand.

I started out playing left handed then when I was 12. We had an in-land hurricane and it leveled 100s of acres of our corn and our neighbors corn crop. We had to pick as much as we could by hand because a combine wouldn't pick it up. In doing so a slashed my right hand ring finger down to the bone and could no longer comfortably fret with that finger again. So I flipped the guitar over and learned right handed. I should have started that way to begin with.

Danny Gatton was a left-hander who played righty.

Anyone interested in this topic should check out "Uncommon Sound", a two-volume hardcover set about left-handed guitarists. I don't recall seeing Duane in there but he could be. Everyone else you could possibly think of and more is... the books cover all genres, not just rock, and have many, many photos of lefty musicians and guitars.

I kinda think playing backwards would be advantageous, especially for a slide player. Get all the dexterity in your fretting hand.

The only thing I do right handed is play a guitar.

And I'm not even in the same area code as a guitarist as this lefthander who likewise played a guitar righthanded . . .

Lefty plays right and golfs right.

I golf right because that is the first set of clubs I ever got! LOL

I'm a lefty who plays right handed.

Fretting with my dominant hand just seemed natural.

And I think growing up with computers/mouse helped.

Playing shooters on pc using a mouse with my right hand meant my right hand was getting steady usage.

Another left playing right handed checking in.

No reason for left handed guitars to exist in my opinion except for existing users.

If you're starting a whole new physical process like playing the guitar it is all so alien that there is no benefit to doing it left over righty.

I'm left handed but play right handed... and I also eat with the fork in my right hand. I reserve my more capable hand for the knife. If Duane was right handed, it's perfectly possible that he used his smarter hand for the knife like I do.

I eat left handed, tie shoes left, shoot guns left, quite a few things actually.

Me too! I didn't know so many players I recognize are left-handed. While I do single hand things usually lefty, two handed things like golf, I naturally do righty.

I was, too. It never even occurred to me to try to play the other way.

My father used to say to me, if my golf ball was in a place where I could only swing lefty at it, "You should be able to hit the ball lefty, since you are a lefty".
I told him that just because I am left handed doesn't mean I can do left-handed things well. As with you A-Bone, I never thought about playing guitar, or golf left-handed. It feels unnatural to me.

I've also generally had problems with devices designed specifically for lefties -- like scissors. I couldn't cut well to save my life as a little kid (teachers thought I had some sort of developmental issue) until I picked up scissors not meant for lefties, then I could cut just fine.

Wow, didn't realise so many of you southpaws played right-handed!

Regardless - fork in the left hand, knife in the right. No elbows on the table. Sit up straight. I got smacked upside the head a few times as a kid for not following these rules...

I wouldn't say I necessarily have problems with items designed for lefties, but I would say that I'm quite adept at using right-handed products, as any lefty should be. As a result, I've always been quite ambidextrous, mostly out of necessity. I seem to be more ambidextrous than most though. I can throw a football respectably well with my right hand. I can shoot left or right handed. I've picked up lefty guitars and I can play a few open chords, albeit a bit too slowly to make chord changes in time. I can swing left-handed golf clubs ok, and I'd say my putting is about equal left or right handed. I can switch-hit when I play baseball, etc.
