Okay, the presence knob.

Is it correctly functioning if the sound gets darker and noticeably quieter(like 20% lower output) as one turns the knob "up"/clockwise?

This seems to be opposite of what normal amps do. Plus, the volume normally shouldn't change.

Or does my unit have a cap that isn't functioning properly???

The presence on mine has no affect on the volume.

Try sending an email to Bogner and see if they tell you that mine is bad.

PS - fun toys, eh? What amp are you running yours through?

yes, it is fun.

Normally, VHT 2150.

or...........Rivera Hammer 120, or Rocktron Velocity Valve, or the fx return of my Rivera TBR-2SL

Here is a dumber question. What does the fish do?

It is a rare early bogner multi channel guitar preamp I believe. So you use it in conjunction with a power amp and cab

edit:apparently there was also a limited run of them a bit back

My Fish also works as yours in presence .
I think there is no problem with that .
This is not an ordinary preamp :nono , right ?
Mr.Bogner designed it in his own way .

The volume seems going down but I think that why the high frequency gain cuts down . That's normal .
Take care of your Fish ,
It's more than precious .

Regards,
