    Hi!

I did some searching but can't seem to find anything along the lines of what I'm looking for. Suppose you have a tele with a traditional single coil pickup that you really like, but want to have the option of (the sound of) a humbucker in the neck position, could you add another single coil close to it (perhaps RW for hum cancel)? Or if that's too crazy, is there a "dual single coil" or HB type pickup that gives a pretty good/accurate/pleasing Tele neck pickup tone when in single coil mode? I spend a lot of time in the neck position (mainly on a Strat now), but usually prefer a HB pickup tone for soloing.

I'm kind of dreaming out loud--just thought I'd throw it out there. Thanks :)

Try and just wire your pups with a Serie / Parallel on the tone push pull or on a switch.
you d get a great additional sound that might do it close enough to a Humbucker without changing your pups or spending too much.
Worth a try really even on vintage ones if your soldering joints / pots aren t 100% stock.

minihumbucker, especially a Lollar makes a great tele neck pickup.
humbucker, but much closer to single coil tone than others.

What about a dummy coil underneath the pickguard? I reckon it could be set up to be splitable with the active coil. When you engage the HB, the dummy coil won't pickup any tone from the strings, but will act as another bobbin to eliminate the hum noise. When it is non engaged it will give you the tone of the neck tele pickup.
I don't really think it could be done by adding it to your pickup, it would be tricky to get it all to work together since your pickup's magnet wire is all connected to the leads, but it is a neat system. You'd probably then need to route a cavity under the guard for the dummy-coil, or perhaps fit it into the control cavity.

May be easier just to buy a HB for the neck!
