Im using my THD HP only as dummy load

Is there some better (and cheaper) device with line out level out there?

My setup goes:Marshall JCM800-HP-delay-velocity150-2x12

They are easy and cheap to make. Lots of info on the Metro Forum on making your own.

Don't go cheap.

That unit is already a compromise in feel, though it is very good.

You get what you put in..

Dummy loads are not attenuators. The load in the UA cost $10. There isn't any reason you can't build a load yourself. Attenuators are a different story.

Oh, I did not mean your comment Alex. I was responding to OP. We must have been typing at the same time. I have spent money on all of the other units. Badcats, THD, Dr. Z, etc....

The most transparent unit that I have used is my Richter. I paid more for it than the other ones.

That said, my Gabi-built attenuator for my Gabriel Voxer was VERY transparent.

4 50watt Arcol resistors <$16
1 5k pot $5
1 47k 1/2 watt ohm resistor $1
1 100ohm 1/2 watt resistor $1
2 1/4 jacks $2
1 Knob $1
1 box to put it in $?

$26 plus box.

As far attenuators go don't judge them all to be the same they aren't. The Richter rocks.

Forgot to mention that DIY stuff is out of the question
Am no good at electronics
Wont HP perform better, than something you put together for the price of few beers?

The power resistor alternative didn't work well for me.
If you are going to reamp or send the signal you should have genuine speaker emulation i.e. a reactive load, possibly eq, too.
Aguably, nobody has totally got it right, so far.

Have you checked out the Palmer DI/ Load Box/ Speaker Sims. They've been used on quite a few serious recordings.

PDI 03 and PGA 04 have load box which is only 8ohm.
Would have to custom order for 16ohm or missmatch.
But think getting expensive speaker simulator to use only as a dummy load would be even bigger overkil than using attenuator as a dummy load...

If you're in Europe for sure check out the Elemental from Sequis. Much cheaper for you than for us and you won't find anything better now.
