Dunlop Echoplex EP-103 VS Catalinbread Belle Epoch

Hi, I searched for comparisons of these two pedals, but couldn't find any. I currently have a Belle Epoch here, that I can still return. I really like it's warm sound, but there is maybe some high-end sparkle lost in the signal.

I wonder if anyone has tried the new Dunlop EP-103 and has an opinion? Maybe it's just too new. Saw this video, and they mention that the EP-103 also has a preamp emulation.

Thanks, Daan

The Dunlop isn't out yet, so little chance of any comparisons so far.

Anyone sell their Belle Epoch after buying the Dunlop?
Not yet, but the 2 Belles I have were pulled from my working boards and have been replaced by the Dunlops. Dunlops are livelier, more open sounding, and remind me more of the real EPs I used in the late 70s early 80s.

I don't like to sell any gear anymore, so I may never sell the Belles, but I may not use them again either. I literally have around 100 various OD pedals in drawers in my studio that may not be my #1 choice for live use, but I like having them around for other things including comparison A/B testing.

Interested to hear some comparisons once people start getting the Dunlop Echoplex.

I love my Belle Epoch, but I'm curious about how this new Dunlop will sound...Or really, what owners of the Belle Epoch will think of the Dunlop Echoplex?

I just got the echoplex and it is brighter for sure.

I'am really liking it so far, especially for the clean stuff.

This is going to require some long term testing.I already stumbled upon a cool sound by setting one at a short time and the other longer for a kind of galloping lead delay.

There are other threads on here with some demo's and more in depth discussion.

I bought and sold the Belle Epoch twice - simply couldn't bond with it. Same with El Capistan, although I only gave that a single try. The Echoplex OTOH was love at first stomp. I agree with Kyle that it sounds and feels much more like a real tape echo.

Bump? Looking at getting a Belle Epoch or the Dunlop.
I only have the Belle Epoch - can't compare yet to the Dunlop personally, but I love the Belle.

For what it's worth, Eric Johnson has two Belle Epoch's on his board and he's about as OCD as one can get when it comes to pedals. Especially considering the original Echoplex has been a huge part of his sound for years. He wouldn't just slap any old tape delay on there unless he felt it really did a good job at mimicking a real Echoplex.

I'd actually love to hear his opinion on the new Dunlop Echoplex...

EJ has a really dark tone for a Strat and the BE pre-amp fits right in with that, rolling off some of the top end, he doesn't mind one bit.

Is anyone running the MXR into distortion? I run the BE that way, and love how dynamic it can be, but am tempted by the MXR. Does it behave in the same way despite not having the tone/rec level control?
