Can someone explain gibson's general business plan in the early 60s regarding epiphone guitars? I'm mostly interested in the acoustics, but would love to hear about electrics too. For instance, my understanding is that some stores who were unable to carry the full gibson line as a dealer were offered the epiphone line as an alternative. But the guitars were made in the same factory right alongside the gibson equivalents. In fact I read somewhere online that the epiphone excellente was the most expensive flat top that gibson/epiphone offered in their entire line for a few years in the early 60s. So anyway, so I have this right? And are there any online resources for early 60s epiphone production numbers?
