Or, are they plain steel like every other string?

I just read the review in the new MF catalog, it did not mention the plain strings.

I put on a set a few days ago. The paper sleeves for the three low strings
say "Cobalt Electric Guitar String", and the sleeves for the three high strings say: "Cobalt Steel Plain String".

The three wound Cobalt strings are very bright, but not in a bad way.

I put some on yesterday, and I definitely hear an increase in upper mids. My gut doesn't like it, but they were somewhat expensive, so I'll leave them on for a bit and see (hear) what happens.

Yea, I hear ya. They are bright - we'll see how they sound after a few weeks. I'm a big fan of Everly Music B-52's, made with "Alloy 52". They sound wonderful, and last a long time.
