I just have a Castledine V2, and I'm very very happy with it, but this... holysh1t, it's something you gotta have, even just for the case (but the knobs are a bit ugly, blah) !

So with the new Ram's Head RI, and I gather from some of the replies, these two pedals are the same? Or did I miss something?

Not the same at all, other than they are both Big Muffs. The BYOC is not a 1973 violet circuit like the EHX. It's based on a later circuit from around 1976.

Stupid question... why not just get the big muff deluxe and be done with it? Dosen't it cop all the models except the op amp?Is their any benefit in having a dedicated model of each?

To be fair, the NYC Muff was designed by Fran of Frantone and she knows a thing or two about muffs!

Not to mention some people just do not like lots of knobs and wide tone options. They just want the basics...and the smallest real estate taken up on their pedalboard.

Cool! I didn't know that. Did she design anything else for EHX?

Fran revised the component values for the 2000 NYC reissue, but Bob Myer "designed" the Big Muff circuit. The NYC reissue was a mix of component values from different Big Muff periods. It has been revised several times since then. There is a big difference between the original 2000 circuit sound and the revised version from 2007, and later.

Continually revising and changing the circuit is something EHX has been doing since the original in 1969.

Great demo. Also love that he uses an Ibanez and it sounds killer. Been a long time since I was a fan, but they are tools that get the job done!

I'm enjoying the history and insights in this thread. There are so many muffs/clones, that IMO, can get the job done...gets down to nuances, which I certainly understand and appreciate.

Those early 2000-2001 EHX/Frantone designed muffs are some of the best sounding muffs ever made, just incredible sounding with loads of range.

Is that it? Cause I’ll scoop a deluxe big muff if it does all these other editions. Already have op amp.

I pre-ordered it yesterday, I just can't wait to try it.

To help me with the "endless" wait, what can I expect from it compare to the EHX Green Russian Reissue?
    Scooped mids?
    Less bottom-end?

    Thanks!

I have not played through the reissue yet, but if it sounds like the original, an extreme generalization of the difference would be - More distortion than the Green Russian, but less than the EHX Triangle reissue. Less mid range than the GR, but it still stands out in a mix quite well. About the same low end as the GR, but more focused and tighter. Not as smooth sounding as the GR, but not as gritty as the Triangle.

Like most Big Muffs, the real difference is something you have to hear and experience the "feel" of playing first hand, so words describing sound are really limiting. Then there is the gear you are playing through. If it's a humbucker and a dirty amp, and all you play is heavy chords, the nuances and differences in the tone from the GR and RH can get totally lost. The differences are night and day if you play single coils through a clean, mid range focused amp like a Hiwatt or Bassman.
