I've been trying, for a long time now, to figure out what I want for my next guitar. I've tryed tons of different stuff, thought that I wanted quite a few guitars, but the only ones I've played that have really struck a chord (haha) with me are the Eric Johnson Strats I've picked up. The one for sale in the Emporium right now is my first choice, but in case I can't get it, what would be the best place to buy a new one from? I seem to recall that somebody got one from a store for around $1250, and with a setup thrown in for free! Any suggestions?

The best choice would be not to buy one at all...

Call Sweetwater, that's were I bought both of mine, and they have a tech there that goes through guitars before they leave the building so if you need something special they can probably hook you up.

What, in your opinion, is so wrong with the EJ? I understand that its mass produced, but a lot of guys feel its THE #1 value in all of Fenderville........

I've played the guitar, and I like it. Plus, it's actually in a price range I can afford. I don't really care if a few people dislike the guitar.

I've heard soo many mixed feelings about this guitar I really don't know what to tell you. I like the neck, but not the pickups and so on. But if you really like the guitar, buy it.

Good for you, it's your money and if you like the guitar then :BEER

I bought one last year and have no complaints or any 'if they only..' feelings about it.

EM Shorts is the dealer that I've heard has the best pricing.

Well, the best price you can get is if you know someone who works at Fender in Corona, CA. You can get one at 1/2 list which is around the $1170 area. So I guess it's whatever a dealer wants to make over that price.

Yup, EM Shorts has the best prices I have seen. I actually just got my EJ yesterday. I waited forever looking for a good deal on a candy apple red one. EM Shorts has some on order but they werent going to get there until the middle of July. In the end I ordered one from Wildwood guitars and they gave me a good deal as well. The guitar is great and I am itching to get home so that I can play it.

I think the EJ Strat is the best Fender I've played in a long time. The
pickups have a great vintage vibe to them - clear but not overly bright.

Many of the features (fret profile, fingerboard radius, neck shape, body style and weight) are the "extras" that Don Grosh, John Suhr and other limited production builders have been putting on their guitars for some time. But you aren't going to find a new Grosh or Suhr Strat for $1500.00!

The EJ Strat is a great value.

So how long did it take for your EJ's necks to loose the stickiness. Mine is brand new but is an earlier one (#2877) and the neck is still a bit sticky. I have heard that you just need to play it in for a little while, is that your experience. I have to say though, this thing is extremely resonant.

Mine took a couple of weeks, but it wasn't extremely sticky even in the beginning.

No way, it's way overpriced. The best value in Fenderville is a Mexican Strat standard, or a JV strat (also made south of the border)... I've had Fender builders in America tell me the same thing...
