Hey my Digital Guitar Tone peeps!

I've been a long time fan of digital modeling units & the Eleven Rack as a recording device. In fact this song, thread & release wouldn't have happened without it. I never recorded myself before buying this product, so I'm always going to have a soft spot for it in my heart!

It's been a "Bucket List" item of mine to release a Pro Level Guitar tune on iTunes for years now!

Well.....I've finally done it & I'm really proud of the tones & end result.

Here's a picture of my new Custom Greg Howe (GH24) Carvin 24-fret Signature bolt guitar in Eleven Rack Orange! Or Deep Orange Cali-Burst.

You don't need to buy the track to hear the tones on it either. Here's a small taste of the High Energy Bridge solo section from "Turning Point".

I did re-amp all the lead tones with the 11-Rack & some post EQ was used by the sound Engineer, but the amp models & cabs are ALL stock 11R tones.

I use a real drummer & local (Detroit) bass Pro named Takashi. My good friend Jim Rawlings mixed this track at "Radio Delete Studios" too.

The guitar used for all the Rhythm parts (Clean & Dirty) was a Flamed Teal Carvin CT624 w/ a fixed bridge & stock Carvin S22 covered pickups.

The leads were a Carvin Gold Top CT624 w/ a Floyd Trem on it & C22 pickups.

I got the Orange GH24 Guitar (shown below) a few days before I released this track on CD Baby & iTunes. I just had to get it in my cover art too!

This was all done with the intention of re-amping the input signal with real tube amps, but my producer (aka Jim) loved what it sounded like. (Jim owns an Axe FX2 as well)

This is NOT about what modeler sounds better & only about a digital product on a Pro Level release.

I also look at this as more of a test to understand what it takes to get to a certain (iTunes) quality too.

Jim did do a Master of the mixed file, but I ended up going to Disk Masters as well. They have some Uber High end equipment & really added a nice 3D effect while controling all the highs & lows.

I'll NEVER make my money back on this one & I'm totally ok with that.

I was very lucky to get a lot of advice & help from Neil Zaza as well. Neil's been a great mentor to me & someone that I really look up to.

Oh & if you've gotten this far.......I really appreciate your time here today (Thank You). This song opens up a lot softer & has an open string progression on a clean tone. The song has many laters & levels of dynamics too! The verses are on the edge of break-up & more vocal like, the chorus are totally wah wah drenched melodic shred! You're only hearing the most intense part of the song in this example & the actual solo. The song end with a Bass solo that's a wicked awesome little moment!

There are more clips on my XMann.Music (Facebook) page & on my XMANNROCKS Instagram page. The Instagram page is also filled with Gear Porn & Real Pro Level Guitar Idols from the last 3-Winter NAMM shows too!

    Thanks & Peace! X-Mann

PS - I'm now working on an entire album/CD as well.

PSS - I know that I'm playing on old/outdated technology, but I sound the same no matter what I play on anyways........so.....:huh

Lol......Yea......A lot of work & effort went into this track, but I hear what you're saying (again, I sound like me no matter what I play on).

To me it's not about what equipment you use at all.........It's about what you do with the equipment you do use! :huh

Thanks & keep on Rocking! X

That's ok, some people are still using tubes and wires and stuff!
Makes your rig almost state-of-the-art modern ;)

    Sounds great by the way.

Bought the tune, sounds great! Really like the intro with the clean, semi-clean stuff. Creates an awesome landscape for your lead work. Nice job!

Lol........Yes, very true & a great way to look at things!

My Carvin Guitars all have standard Carvin C22 pickups in them too! I know that they are not percieved as great pickups, but they just seem to work well for me!

I will say that the new tunes I'm working on with the same 11-Rack Rigs sound 10x better with the new Greg Howe Kiesel pickups though.

So who knows......At some point I just drew a line in the sand & said "I'm gonna play with this for now"........

Thanks for checking it out randombastage, you sir....ROCK! :JAM

    Peace! X-Mann

    Thx H! \m/

The clean harmonics & opening progression are an 11R Rig w/ no amp...........The verse part also has a 2nd Matchless Rig that's set at the edge of break-up & only palm muted.

These 2-tones are blended as one for the most part too!

The reviews have been just great & I even got contacted by Jeff Kiesel about the tune. Neil Zaza really likes it too & getting a review from him was just PRICELESS to me!

My sons are very proud of this & they helped me w/ the art work too.

Thanks again & peace! Tim X Mann ;)

    Excellent!

I shall download the rest of the song when I get paid tomorrow!

I have always wanted a pro recording of myself....and I did have ONE....problem is, it was a solo spot for a friend's band done last minute. I had none of my gear with me. I had to use the guitarist's Strat strung with 011's (I use 007's) and a Twin Reverb with a distortion pedal in front with NO other FX. ( I use high gain amps, delay, and reverb).

Then, to make matters worse, the progression I had to play over was like, F major, E minor, D major, G augmented....those dudes had no idea about chord progressions; they would just play something they thought was cool (no problem with that,) but it made constructing a solo impossible for me! I ended up basically playing a solo which sounded good in and of itself, but if you listen to the rhythm guitar buried in the background, I was COMPLETELY out of key!

Well, that was maybe 16 years ago. Now that I finally have my own recording setup, I look forward to making some nice IN KEY music.

    :)

Again, nice job X-Mann! Enjoy that Carvin! I've had 4 myself, and look forward to getting another H2 someday (the NON headless model).

    Great story Speedyone!

This was a total learning experience for me & then some! I got pretty good at making good high end demo quality stuff....but it just wasn't at the right level to release it. I used loops & played the bass myself in the past, plus I really have no clue about mixing & mastering at all.

I brought in Pro level people to record the drums & Bass.......Then actually re-recorded EVERY backing guitar track to the new rhythem section after to make sure that it was real tight. I got Uber anal about the quality of every single note & played everything in long sections too. There's no copy & paste stuff going on in this track at all & I use to do that a lot. There are also no punch-in either.

The re-amping feature really helped me to make tone changes & FX changes that made the leads sound much better in the mix. I use to just set it & forget it pretty much.

Knowing that it was going to end-up on iTunes & that my Producer friend Jim was going to hear it isolated & on its own.........um.....I raised my game & it really shows (to me) in the results.

This track cost me $540 that I will NEVER see again &......I'm totally ok with that! I feel good that I paid real musicians to do their chose craft & help me out.

I also learned about creating the album art & the Gimp software from my son Travis. This was a fun & bonding moment between us too!

I also learned about the business side of all of this as well. On a site like CD Baby you make 0.90 cents from a 0.99 cent download..........but on iTunes it's like 0.63 cents for the same 0.99 cent digital download.

It's nice to have my music licensed though too!

I've shared a lot of my Eleven Rack Tunes & Tones here......& just wanted to share where the 11R has taken me. I bought the 11R with the hope of trying to write & record a song.....& since I don't sing well enough for anyone to ever want to hear it.......I went the instrumental guitar route.

While an instrumental piece of music can be about anything you want due to the lack of lyrics......"Turning Point" is about that moment where you decide to make a real change in your life. For me, it's about taking my music to the next level, but it can be about losing weight, a relationship, job or whatever...........My sons have been weight training & mountain biking to it...........& they say it's perfect for that! lol

I'm working on an entire Album/CD, now that I know the process & people!

Thanks again & the new Greg Howe Carvin sounds amazing on the new stuff too!

    Peace! X

PS - I will be using the 11R, Axe FX2 & the AmpliFire pedal on the rest of these songs though. I don't care what I use at all & I'm not brand loyal to a fault. I just want good tones that move me.

Nice one, X-Mann! I don't know what I like better - your music, or your attitude. Congratulations on getting this fine release out!

Badass! Playing, tones, arrangement and mix all sound great!

Way to rep the white Macbook and Eleven Rack combo, looks just like my setup! :p

That Carvin looks great, like a 24 fret Contour 66 with a non-locking bridge and Holdsworth headstock. Awesome.

1st off, "Thank You" very much! I debated sharing my adventure here at all, but I'm glad that I did now! To everyone that downloaded "Turning Point", I'm humbled & honored by you.

I have no goals of being famous, getting known or even an endorsement deal! I want to create as many cool memories & moments as I can w/ my time here on planet Earth. My sons love all the goofy guitar video, Art & music I create & now they say "hey, my dad's on iTunes"! Lol

This is my 8.5 seconds of pretend fame & it's all just plain FUN!

I had to buy my own digital download from CD Baby to verify the content....& after loading T.P. on my iPhone, I saw this & I'm not saying I cried, but I'm not saying that I didn't!
& if that wasn't cool enough a cool friend from the Carvin Forum pointed out that I was the #1 instrumental Rock song on CD Baby a few days ago.
Again, I take this for what it really is, I've only sold 35 downloads on CD Baby so far. How can it be #1? Who cares & I took my screen shot to save this cool moment in time. I'm having more fun w/ all of this then I ever thought possible & I almost didn't do it too!

Yea, I bought the Eleven Rack to get into the World of Digital recording & writing music.....So win/win right?

I hope you enjoy all the "X-Mann behind the music" stories & I'm sorry if we're getting outside of the scope of this section of the forum too.

Have a ROCKIN Friday boyz! X

Yo M, this is WAY COOL of you to say & as a firm believer in Karma, you have great things coming your way!

Sounds like I found my identical hand twin since we own the same set-up!

Buying the 11R is the #1 thing that's changed & progessed my guitar playing. It's put all the mechanical elements of practicing scales, chords, licks & lines into a musical & usable outcome!

The #2 thing is my Carvin Guitars! The 5-piece necks are ROCK SOLID & the wood quality is stellar! I'm a Carvinte junky now & own 3 in total.

Here's a few more of my new GH24 build too! It's Carvin/Kiesel's 1st 24-fret chambered bolt guitar model. I'm also a fan of the Contour 66 as well.
